Yeah but the stink of "unclean" lingers, who is clean and who isn't is the bigger question. I truly hope all 3 are never found to have cheated, it would destroy all sport if any one of them were found to be dirty. Assuming they aren't then hats off to great victories, especially Bolt, although why Gatlin has ever been allowed to compete is beyond me.

I'm not really an athletics fan but having seen news reports over the last few months of Gatlin winning and putting in quick times, I was overjoyed seeing Bolt beat him. Plus the others in the final who have failed doping tests in the past. When half of the field have one (or more) failed test behind them there's something seriously wrong somewhere.
 
Bolt beating Gatlin was quality and proves that natural performance wins out over doping, I too am surprised they let Gatlin run and you can just see the headlines if he had won. More worrying is the admission that you can never truly prove that you haven't doped!

Are you saying Gatlin was doped in this race?

For all Bolt is a great runner I wouldn't call his win by 1/100th of a second a great win
 
I am not a big athletics fan but from memory although Gatlin was very much vilified for being a two-time convicted drug cheat I could not help but notice that both Powell and Gay were also in the final. Both are also convicted drug cheats.

Also, from memory, the WINNER of the women's 100m Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce was also banned for taking a maskant some time ago. This seems to have slipped the mind of the commentators !

Bolt may have won the battle but the war-on-drugs in athletics seems far from over !

It'll never be over - as soon as anyone posts a time which is out of sync with their training or expectations, they will be accused of doping. I saw Paula Radcliffe saying that she regretted posting at time of 3 minutes better than that years best because of the accusations it raised

Yes... There are over 60 convicted drug cheats in athletics. I can't quite understand why these people are not then charged with fraud as they deprive others of medals and income.. For example, Jenny Meadows stated recently that she believed she had been cheated out of 7 medals. Imagine the impact of that. It is so wrong..the problem is that the cheats get lawyers and threaten to sue so it becomes impossible to implement a lifetime bans plus not every nation has a rigorous testing programme and one of those has been Jamaica....
 
Yup, Jamaica has one of the slackest drugs testing programmes of any country. Interesting to see a couple of Kenyan's being booted out of the World Champs after failing tests too.

Hate to be a cynic but which two countries top the current World Champs medal table ?

Would you have been happier if it had been USA, Russia or maybe Poland, or even the home nation China?
 
Probably not ! Hard to say who are the clean guys in athletics nowadays. The blood passport system is ok but this relies on out-of-competition testing. It is though a joke how much of this the Jamaicans do, for example.
