Does anyone have a recommendation of a car hire company in the US? I'm trying to get a rental from San Francisco to Denver for approx 13days. I'm currently finding a lot of places charging $500+ for the one way drop off fee alone!

I'm looking for a Charger or Mustang too ;)

Any ideas would be appreciated! Ideally i want this to cost under £400 all in, though i'm beginning to think this is unlikely!

Thanks

enterprise? The one way charge will be a killer, try a hire broker who may have negotiated this at a discount.

Not sure about the US, but we found hiring a care on the UK website was much cheaper when we came to Canada. We used Hertz.

I`ve used Nova car rental (based in Ireland), and they are the cheapest i,ve found by far. They seem to hire from the main rental companys, but are still cheaper. Last one was picked up from Alamo at LAX, albeit a few years ago now.

Recently used Alamo for a one-way hire from San Francisco to Las Vegas, cost about £380 for everything (insurances etc) and that was for a Nissan Xtrail or similar so would expect it to be a couple hundred more at least for a Mustang.

They do have a pickup location on Bush Street in San Francisco (just off Union Square) which is handy as it's then a fairly straight forward route heading out. Would advise against having a car while in San Francisco (until your ready to leave) as parking is expensive and driving there not much fun, much better to hop on a cable car instead ;)

Enjoy your trip.

Another vote for Dollar here -

Another thing to mention though, most people don't bother but I would STRONGLY advise you to make sure you have the Full cover not JUST.... CDW which is equivalent to our TPFT!

The U.S is well known for its "sue for anything" approach (Though we're getting that way), if you were to be unfortunate and at the worst kill someone you can and probably will be persuid here for damages up to and including your home....! if you don't have the money.

not worth the risk, my advice is ALWAYS get the GOLD cover.

I was over there last week and had a mini van for seven guys over 6 days.....$1150 from AVIS. That was a Crysler Town and Country I think it was called.

We went to Florida a could of years back and used Dollar. They were a bit pushy trying to get us to take the special offer upgrade. I think they were alot cheaper although I didn't pay the bill.

As jcoutts says get the full Insurance.

When we went touring in the USA (a few years ago) we hired a car from Washington DC to LAX, National were cheapest by quite some amount.

The one way charge was higher than the rental element!

And don't hire form the airport itself. Get a 1 day hire at the airport, with a booking at a different location. Airports receive kickbacks from all car hires that are taken from the airport - on a per day basis, so if you have 7 days hire, that is 7 days kickback, just added to the cost.

I used Dollar for a one way from Tampa to Pittsburgh, about £350 but that was a few years ago.
Last year I used a company called "Rhinocarhire"
I couldn't find out where there main office location was and it seems they might be a UK based outfit.
They came out quite cheap for a two week hire with a free upgrade, I always pick up from airports, less hassle.:)

Your price doesn't seem to bad given it's a one way hire, they always kill you on those.
