As title really having a coffee while I decide care to help

The NEX 3 is something I am tempted by, the full size sensor in the little body, very tempting, but the gf1 is also very highly regarded by many people. My choice would probably be the NEX. It's a bit unusual in its design and I like that.

If you want to be abit more serious about photography with the camera then get the GF1, but if you want something a little better than a compact that you can bring around with you too take photos of family and everyday stuff, then the NEX would be the better option.

Well I be coming from a Canon 40D with several L Lens so I am quite into photography... Sounds like the panasonic GF1 is the way to go since it can be controlled in a similar way as a full size dSLR whilst the Sony is more of a point and Shoot?

Yeah, sounds like the GF1 is the best camera for you:thumbs:

Why is this even a question? GF1 without a shadow of a doubt :)

Have u got one? Have u tried the nex? Just wondering why people rate gf1 over nex5

Apperantly its very fidly to change things like ISO and White balance on the NEX and the results are a little soft, but i'm sure this wouldn't put off compact users looking to upgrade.

So us pro users are best go for the gf1 then. Now off to find best price round the net.

He seem to like the Sony right? Or am I missing something. Sorry am hard of hearing.

He likes the design of the Sony but says at the end it is directed at a more point and shoot audience and the GF1 is for people who are a little bit more serious about photography.

Look like the Sony can't do a single focus like I aim what I want in focus like the gf1 can. Hmmm trying decide before I go back next week... But what gets me is that the Sony got a better sensor right?

I would have sony's sensor in gf1 body. just think which is more for you. the bigger sensor or the buttons. mind you - you still can shoot with sony, it's not that it doesn't have buttons at all .

full size sensor in small body, that would be 5000quid leica m9 :) . sony still has cropped sensor, although it's a lot bigger than 4/3

Yes, I have played with both. The NEX cameras just miss the point when it comes to lenses - they are not really much smaller than consumer DSLR lenses!
Also, the GF1 is easier to use. They don't try to reinvent photography like the NEX does with rubbish like "background blur control".

May i suggest that you try out both GF1 and NEX before you decide? The NEX controls might be a pain at first but once you get used to it, it's a very fun camera to play with. I tried out EP-1, GF-1 and Nex-5 before i made my final decision to get a NEX. :)

If you want the NEX, get the NEX-5 instead of NEX-3. The former has a magnesium alloy body and HD recording whereas the latter has a polycarbonate body and it can only shoot MP4 movies at 1280 x 720p 29.97fps. The only nice thing about NEX-3 is that they give you a choice of 4 colours.(silver, black, red, white) :)

If you are not in a hurry, i suggest that you wait for the launch of the NEX-7. Rumors has it that Sony is coming out with a new NEX to rival Panasonic GH2. :)
