I'm on holiday at the moment, before i went away i loaded windows vista onto my laptop,i tried the CS3 program out before i came away and it worked ok,but now i'm away my raw files won't open in CS3, is this some type of compatibilty issue ? and can it be resolved easily, bloody vista i wished i had'ent bothered,it has caused a few problems since i went over from XP,even though i'm running 4gb memory it's still slowed it down  anyway if anyone has any suggestions how to resolve the problem could you please let me know ASAP, also just as a side note is it easy to change back to XP ? many thanks in advance

cant really assist with RAW files opening but i noticed when first trying raw they opened int he built in program in Vista

i am using business edition though so maybe different if you are using a different ersion

i wouldn't personally use XP at home again after using Vista, so much easier to use and performs better on my PC. in my opinion of course

hope you get your issue sorted

maybe there is a plugin of some sort available to download? just to open, try searching the web for a program to open with, that will list something or other and may get you by to alow you to open images

not sure how it works on vista, but on a mac the RAW compatibility is built into the OS, so if its the same and you are using a new camera then it might be worth doing a windows update.
Only a guess, though, so it might be worth waiting until someone posts something more helpful

Yer sounds to me like you need to update the adobe camera raw file, what make of camera are you useing btw ??

Yes sorry should have mentioned it, i'm using the D300, but i never had any problems on CS3 with windows XP, i guess it's to do with the NEF file now i'm running vista

Yes I am a D300 vista user.

you need the nikon vista codec to preview in windows photo gallery and the raw convertor update to view in photoshop

Yes but what i'm not getting is my NEF RAW files opened no problem in CS3 when i had XP installed, but now a box comes up in CS3 saying "COULD NOT COMPLETE YOUR REQUEST BECAUSE IT IS NOT THE RIGHT KIND OF DOCUMENT" so i don't understand whats going on

Because vista is not xp
Install vista codec and adobe camera raw update and you will be fine

Tried all of the above but still no joy, this is a real pain now, as i'm even having trouble getting my photos from my CF card, i think it's a problem with the raw files as i'm shooting in raw and jpeg, when i'm trying to get them from the card it's stopping half way through the process, this could'ent of happened at a worse time, i'm real p****d of now, if anyone can help with this i would greatly appreciate it :bang:

Had exactly the same problem with Laptop/Vista/Canon40d - for some reason I had to download a newer version of the RAW reader. Hope you get it sorted!

Can't help with your camera issue, but vista I may be able to offer some assistance with. I assume you are connecting to the t'interwebs via some kind of router (wired or wireless) or modem directly connected to your computer.
This can slow vista somewhat, but is fairly easily remedied.
Go to the Contorl Panel, Programs and Features, Turn Features On/Off and turn off Remote Differential Compression.
This 'feature' is on by default and is a real PITA. We turn it off by force at work, and the difference in performance is defo tangible.

HTH

Thanks for all the suggestions guys.... an update i managed to get to view my pics in CS3 but when i tried to copy from my cards to laptop using adobe bridge it stopped half way through the process, it became a real PITA in the end and i started to regret bringing the bloody laptop, anyway i managed to copy my files from the cards using copy and paste, but it seemed to take forever, even the ones i copied using adobe bridge took ages, considering i now have 4gb of memory on the laptop, anyway i did'ent let it spoil my holiday i got back last week and now thoroughly depressed lol,Thailand seems the worst place to come home from for having the holiday blues it really gets to you, anyway now just sorting out the few hundred photos i took whilst there and will post them up in due course, thanks again
