Urban Exploration Gone Insane - I've lost my mind :(

I was scared when I did Hellingly alone, so God knows how you must have felt during this experience!

Cracking photos though, well worth it :)

Just give us a clue to what part of the country it is in, North or South of England ;)

South East :)

If it's Dorset I'll come help!

Thanks for the offer, its a good way from Dorset though

I don't suppose you want to get me that server rack in the IT room next time you go do you?

Great shots, and story to go along with it...

 - thanks!!

Christ, that would put me off Urbex for GOOD. No way would you catch me in there. NO WAY. The first time, maybe. But footsteps in somewhere completely abandoned?!?! If you go back then I'm extremely jealous of the size of your nads :shake:

Big nad are cool, I dont have them - just the compelling push to get the shots :)

Sounds like one hell of a creepy place! I'm considering going and taking some pictures in derelict places, in my town there is a hospital and a theater. And I'm not sure about this, but there used to be an asylum called Cane Hill not that far away, i think the vast majority of it has since been knocked down.. Not sure if I am big enough to fend for myself, will make a note to go with others! :D
Great story great pictures.

Andre on the site has covered Cane Hill - won't post the link in respect of Mattys post (unless he is OK with the PM?) it looks awesome, well worth getting in!

i think i would actually die if i came around a corner and came face to face with that.. :exit:

Dressing as a doctor would have been cool, could have jumped out and asked the person if they were ready for their operation!

Would be fun to go urbexing dressed up like that though, scare the bejeezus out of anyone else there :P

Wouldn't be surprised if people were raiding a recently abandoned place like that. Like someone said, server rack units will fetch a few quid, even the cabling.

Quite poss was someone scouting it

Thanks for the compliments

Great story and great images.

I could feel my heart beat increasing reading each line in anticipation for the next one. As chilling as the story is though i couldn't help but laugh at the fact that even though you were scared Sh**less, you had made your way back and had found the exit point, you couldn't help but to get the tripod and camera setup, just for those last two shots!! That is commitment that should see you committed!! :cuckoo:

For what its worth though Kudos, wouldn't catch me going in there!!!

Thanks, when I found the exit I suddenly became brave knowing I could exit. The worst problem was being stuck in an asylum with hundreds of rooms and only one way out, suddenly you become very cornered :(

Yes, I had to get those shots - sadly, I missed so many good shots whilst in there although I will be going back!

See, being deaf, I would have carried on photo-ing oblivious.

I would love to do something like this, but only ever in a group, having no wish to disappear and be found my CSI's a few months later.

Always had an inkling to do some urbex myself. Problem is I'm too much of a lardarse to go do it if it involves squeezing or climbing :p

I wish I was a film director.. you'd have just given me a terrific idea for a horror film

A.

Yea proper good, any film directors out there? I'll play the dude that hides all the time...

awsome pics and awesome story... i'm jealous! I want to go now :)

Thanks dude.

Don't matter, its less times you have to climb than when you find easy access :)

Amazing! Seriously, if you go back and need a partner feel free to let me know. I am located in the Midlands and would be will to travel anywhere for this :D

Don't scare easy, far too many years of growing up in the country and exploring at night through the woods :)

Thanks for all the responses and PM's on wanting to join up for an uber tour. I scouted the place early this morning and security have plugged the gap which is a pain - full time security also tour the area. There is another way in however you will need a harness and climbing gear.

I know of several point inside now which if exploited will allow urban explorers a much easier way in - once this done I will publish the location - the lucky few will get in although inevitably, when the location is published security will get much tighter over night. I've had over 60 requests from urbexrs to meet up, this place will get busy very quickly

Hope you understand however I WILL keep you posted :)

Indeed good call, I spoke to someone yesterday on protocol of security staff - the security staff are not insured nor allowed to enter premises. If they suspect intrusion then they will call the police who have the legal and insured rights of entry

I was hoping to hear a police radio in the building, I heard nothing like that at all. One of the guards is a huge coloured guy, must be 6'6 and built. They are plain clothes however carry CB radios and headsets - possible he had a look in which would explain the cat and mouse movements (if it was a psycho, I dont think they would have been strategic, more bull in china shop).

If it was security - they bricked it as much as me, that thought makes me happy :)

There was a programme on the demolition of a hotel and carpark on TV last night, they try and make the buiding secure so that no one can get in and accidentally set the explosives off before they are read - I thought of you during this programme

Blimey, I wondered what those packages were for

In a light bit of fun :)

There are 3 cryptic clues to the location, 2 have easily been cracked, the other still needs doing :)

Get the 2nd/3rd and you will have the Latitude and Longitude of the aylum

The challenges can be found on the site

Fantastic write up.

Where was the swimming pool shot taken from your site banner? Looks interesting.

I would love to have a go at this but would have to be during the day time with other people at a common site thats easy to access

That was taken at Plumstead Mental Asylum, it was in the hydrotherapy department!

Take the plunge and go do it, nothing like hours of being scared out of your skin :)

Great story, glad you're ok!

I love your blog, very cool reading...and great pics... Great Twitter as well ;)

I hope you understand when I say that I can't give location details YET! The entry point can be easily removed, if that happens - no fun for anyone. Next time I'm in I'll sort another access point then let people know...

So I was at a customer site early this morning and I spied a familiar building. Popped round the corner and guess what I found ;) Access must be interesting as it appeared to be locked down tighter than a nuns lady bits!

+1

Thought this was photography forum about helping people not giving them puzzels;)

I think the location should NOT be given, it looks like a stunning place which it won't be once everyone has decided a visit, then the vandals trash the place.

A common argument and why a lot of urb-ex forums are either invitation only or have sooper spesh areas that normal members can't view. There's no way the local oiks could gain access to this place and in theory toggers/urb-exers know better than to destroy/vandalise something like this. Also, once it's on the 'tourist trail' security will be stepped up and it'll get locked down again. Remeber though, if people want 'in' then they'll get in, one way or another.......

I've rambled haven't I ? :bonk:

Great story and pictures.

My husband is really into his Urb Ex and was lucky enough to go into Cane Hill when it was relatively untouched. Even though I would be far to chicken to actually go on an outing I love reading about them and looking at pictures and I know that fresh places like this are very rare now.

Nice one for getting in and out unscathed – you’ll probably never know who the other person was which could be a blessing in disguise really!

Would be very interested to see if you manage to go back with someone else and the resulting pictures if you do :)

A: These are all ace.

B: This is exactly the sort of stuff I want to do.

C: They look like they're massively manipulated - are they, is that an efffect you've achieved through gear alone, or am I completely mad?

D: These are absolutely jolly goshing good and I want to go there.
