Yes
I'd like a replacement Nikon body that has a tilting screen. The only upgrade to my current D3200 that I feel I need. Just to make framing and changing aperture Etc. easier when the camera is mounted high and I have trouble seeing the screen.

I currently use my D3200 almost exclusively for photographing oil paintings. And have it set up in the studio with my lights and rarely change settings, except for aperture and shutter speed. The D3200 has been very satisfactory, but think a tilting screen would make life easier. I generally lay the paintings on the ground and photograph from above. I'm on a tight budget and think I have narrowed it down to a D5600, but is there an even more economical body that has the tilting screen - and retains the quality I get with the D3200? I'm looking for 2nd hand to save money.

Just to recap: I need the camera for photographing oil paintings and drawings in my studio using X2 Smartflash. Photographs used for promotion, social media and printing (canvas prints, postcards Etc.).

If the D3200 is otherwise OK for your work, and you are happy to buy second hand, you could consider the D5200. It's similar internally to the D3200 but with the tilt and swivel screen. Guide price would be £150 to £200 for a body.

Thanks for that. Where would recommend I look to buy a body?

Have seen the Nikon WU-1A WLAN Adapter while looking at the camera bodies. Would this be a good and economical alternative to a new body? As my current problem is having to get above the LCD screen to see it -not the performance of the camera itself. If I can just wifi remotely to my iPhone or iPad that might be cheaper and be more practical anyway?

I've used exactly that adapter with the Nikon app, and a 'phone or iPad to compose and control the camera. Early software iterations were a bit flaky, but this has improved. So I'd say it's an excellent solution to your problem! And far cheaper than a new camera.

Thanks for your advice. Does that mean I should buy a brand new device or is it just a software issue (that's been updated?)?

I think it's just the software for the app. The first version I had was a bit flaky, but updates did fix most issues. I have also seen external monitors used in studio set ups; the D3200 has a HDMI output, so you could try to find an older 1080p monitor, and a hot shoe mounted ball head or something to mount it. A bit more expensive, but not as much as a new camera perhaps. And the little ML-L3 wireless remote control trigger works with the D3200 I think; you can buy fake version on Ebay etc for very little, that do actually work (it's a pretty basic IR trigger).

Thanks for the info!

Would I be able to perform the following with it: remotely focus, change shutter speed and aperture, and release shutter?

I think you can certainly release the shutter, and also change settings. Focus I'm not sure about, it's a long time since I used it.

Just received this in an email from and enquiry I made about the WU-1a:

"Unfortunately Nikon wireless WU-1A/B does not allow you to set focus point, change aperture or shutter. All you can do is see live view, take a picture and transfer the photo to your mobile device. "

So it looks like I'm back on with a D5200. I'm looking into trying to pair the camera with my iMac. If feasible it maybe the answer?
