Hi all. I'm a Sony a300 user at the mo and have grown out of it, I have quite a lot of lenses and accessories but thinking of upgrading.although I knew this day would come I want to do it once and do it right (money is not unlimited) so would you say 7d is a good step in the right direction???

Cheers

How about upgrading in the sony system?

I don't know about sony bodies/lenses, but isn't there anything higher up in the range that you could upgrade to?

The 7D is certainly a step up, but I'd also consider a better sony body and some better sony glass, or other brands like nikon (have a look at the D7000).

What do you want out of your camera?

Personally I think you're mad.

Reading reviews there doesn't seem to be enough between cameras actual image quality to justify changing from one system to another unless you are looking for something other than image quality such as a feature, ability or some unique lens or other item of equipment.

Personally if I owned a Sony and "quite a lot of lenses and accessories" I'd be looking at the newer Sony offerings or some of their older offerings, like full frame, and I'd be relelling in having in body IS.

I've read that the Sony FF and newer APS-C cameras give exceptional image quality.

Googling should tell you what other people think of the cameras (FF and APS-C,) lenses and gear but I suppose the only way to know for sure is to think of what you have against what you have now and try the new stuff out for yourself.

Good luck.

Assuming your lenses are APS-C only, Sony A700. Can get them for £400 or so s/h. I liked mine so much after upgrading from the A300 that I started buying only FF lenses so that I would have the option of going to the A900 (and since doing so I've kept the a700 as backup, as it's such a nice camera). Staying with Sony you get to keep in body stabilisation (no paying extra for IS / VR lenses) and have the option of the autofocus Zeiss glass, which is not available for Canon or Nikon mounts.

However, if you see dropping £5k+ on a 400mm / 2.8 lens in your future then you should swap to Canon or Nikon, since it is unlikely Sony will produce one anytime soon (the next long prime from them will be a 500/4).

And you rate the a700? It's quite old now tho isn't it? Do they sell new ?? I've also looked at canons 550d? I don't want to buy wrong so I won't rush it just don't know what to do for the best. Do you specialise in any category or is the a700 a good all rounder?
