Hi,

Just about to move to LR5 which i see can be installed an run in parallel to LR4.

Is there anything to be concerned about when bring my old photos into the new LR5 installation ?

tia,
Mike.

If by 'bringing (your) old photos' you mean importing the LR4 catalogue(s) you should be fine since LR4 and 5 use the same process version (2012).

Just back up your catalog etc before you install LR5 to be safe.

I upgraded a couple of weeks ago and all good.

Upgrading is basically an update to the Lightroom database. The upgrade process adds additional fields to the database, this means that LR4 can't read the LR5 database ( lrcat ). They'll also be some updates to the programme itself but the original images are not touched. So even if it all goes belly up ( Very unlikely) your original images are fine. ensure you backup your catalogue before upgrading, and also click the check box "optimise database" in the back up dialogue box. This ensures the database is in good order when it's updated

There is actually one thing. LR5 is slower than LR4.
I've certainly not found that. If anything it's quicker to process.

There was reported issues with early 5.x versions but not heard of slowness issues on latest releases (IIRC I'm running 5.7)

Anyone have any idea when are we expecting LR6 to be released? (I've no experience of Adobe lifecycles)

...rumour is March 2015 but not heard anything more than those rumours - nothing official yet.
