Upgrading CS2 to CS5

Hi Everyone,

Looking to upgrade my copy of CS2 to CS5 and have a quick question before I place the order. When you perform an upgrade does the later version install all of your filters, actions etc that you have in the older version or do you have to install and set them up again ?.

Not sure about the upgrade but I downloaded the cs5 trial (currently using cs3) and my actions weren't there.
Might be different for the full upgrade but I'd be surprised.
 
No.. its doesn't you have to re install.

The new version (CS5) doesn't install over the top of the old CS2 version, it installs as a separate application, you then install all your plug ins and add your actions to it.

Be aware that not all plug ins or actions will work with it, especially if you install the 64bit version, you will most likely need to update some to their latest version to get them to work with even the 32 bit version.
Having said all that.. its well worth it, I had CS3 before, but CS5 blows it out the water.

Finally its slightly cheaper to get the disc rather than the download, and make damn sure you get it from the UK site, or you will run into problems.
Also double check the VAT, they tried to charge me 19% VAT, it might not seem a lot but its still a mistake that I hope they have now rectified ( just took a phone call to support to sort out for me)

Thanks for the Advice guys, was concerned that it may cost me a bit more than just upgrading the Photoshop software. Will have to do some checking as to whether the version of Nik Software Filters I have will work or as to whether I need to upgrade them as well more expense :bang:

I think I may download the trial version to try if it is a stand alone install and leaves my copy of CS2 intact, at least I can see how much of a difference it makes before upgrading and if it's compatible with the filters :thumbs:

If you have a 64 bits system (Windows 7 64 bits for example), the Photoshop CS5 setup will install both the 64 and 32 bits versions as independent programs. So, you can reinstall all your plugins without any problems (the 32 bits plugins will be installed automatically in the 32 bits Photoshop CS5).
