Iv got a 2.8 Dual Quad core mac pro and would like to know what i can add to it to make it run faster?

Id like a faster processor, so which ones am i able to put in?

USB3? can i upgrade to it? or is that a new motherboard? (Is it even worth it?)

Am waiting on a Drobo to be delivered and i know Firewire 800 is faster than USB2 on my machine but wondered what usb3 would be like if i could fit it..

Thanks for reading this..

Yep.. That's the one..

Not sure tbh.. I've always found it a little sluggish! Even with 12gig of ram! I often get the whirling beach ball just swapping from Browser to finder!!

Also populating thumbnails in Lighroom can be painfully slow!!!

Have you had a good clear out of your hard drive recently?

Is your desktop folder full of stuff? This is the biggest cause of a slow finder. Best to move folders and files off the desktop. Use folder aliases or add links to folders in your dock and your finder window sidebars.

Have you manually run any of the weekly/monthly OS scripts recently? If you leave your machine on overnight every so often these scripts run automatically. But they can be manually triggered using software like Onyx? I can't remember which other software is available, but there are usually loads of links on the apple support forum pages.

There are plenty more technical bods on the apple support pages that can offer you advice on processor upgrades if it's possible. But i'd do a load of housekeeping on your hard drive and system optimisation before attempting that.

I was under the impression firewire was on it's way out. I've never found it reliable enough to run hard drives.
