Upgraded the D70 after much deliberation...

Enjoy it:)

The two cameras are pretty similar in terms of handling, you'll be out snapping away in no time at all ;)

Just grabbed the PDF version of the manual from the Nikon site, they do indeed look very familiar.

Now to fight the urge to 'big it up' with a battery grip :D

You will also need to upgrade your signature, otherwise your D200 will not perform its best

I think I'll wait until it actually arrives in the post and I've got my hands on it before I start changing my signature! :D

Congrats. Definitely get the battery grip.

I assume the D200 was just too good a price to pass it by, but what were you also considering? D90 ?

Texy

D200`s munch batteries mate, a grip is essential IMO.Cracking camera all the same and enjoy it...

I have the PIP expanded guide for the D200 if you fancy it, small donation to TP and its yours.

At £449 I thought so, especially with only 2000ish actuations.

I wanted the D300 but couldn't afford the princely sum of 900 notes!

Looks like I might well be putting hand in pocket for one then! the D70 was great with battery life, does it take the same batteries?

I had the PIP guide for the D70, might take you up on that!

IIRC, the 200 will take 70 batteries, but not vice versa.

If you use 70 batteries, the 200 cannot see how much life is left in them in the menu.

I just wondered as I have a spare battery for the D70, a hahnel one. I assume if you buy the grip it comes with two D200 batteries?

It does come with a tray that you can fill with AA batteries and use them,if you want David.

Congratulations :woot:

Love my D200 also

It does handle nicely with the grip to. I had the chance of a grip for £50 extra when I got mine (3200 actuations) and after a while the Mrs buckled

I seam to get good use out of a single battery in the grip (but it all depends on your shooting of course... flash on or off/long focus movements etc etc

I get really good battery life without a grip with my D200, 1 battery would easily last a 5 hour shoot.. Maybe your battery has had it fracster.

Well it just arrived! :woot:

...and I have to say, it's in near mint condition. I am thoroughly impressed!

I have been deliberating about upgrading from my d70 and would be pleased to know your thoughts about your upgrade because the impatient devil sitting on my left shoulder is saying D200 NOW!! but his patient counterpart is saying wait a few more months and get a D300...is it a worthy upgrade..I hope after a few weeks you can update this thread.

Compared to a D70s or a D300,D200`s munch batteries..........IMO.

I checked the battery in my D70 with the one that came in the D200 and they are identical. I remember when I first got my D70 Nikon did a battery recall and I sent away the original and got the one I have now in it's place, perhaps it was a higher spec battery I got as a replacement. Least I have two :D

Good news then David, the D70s battery only has two terminals, the D200 batteries should have 3........

Certainly is! :D ...just double checked now and the D70 battery is a grey EN-EL3e with three terminals

I've justed noticed my D200 is on firmware 2.0, I looked on Nikons support site earlier and saw a fairly recent 2.01, do you think it's worth upgrading?

I honestly don`t know mate, mine is still on firmware 2..........

I upgraded my firmware the other night. it took about 2mins and works a treat :)

Looks like a very minor fix... but hey, got to be worth it for a few minutes work

"New firmware for both the Nikon D80 and D200 is intended to resolve an instance in which the battery indicator would blink, indicating it was depleted, regardless of the battery's actual charge status."

Here's a link for step by step instructions for anyone that is in this position http://support.nikontech.com/cgi-bi...GU9YW5zd2Vycy5zZWFyY2hfbmwmcF9wYWdlPTE*&p_li=
