Upgraded my sigma dg 70-300mm f/4-5.6 to a canon 70-200mm l f/4 yesterday.. The image quality difference is amazing!

The sigma 2.8 is just as good :-)

There are lots of lenses just as good, worse and even better, however the OP hasn't bought any of those.

OP: It's a great lens in every department and excellent value for money of course.

Indeed, it's not about comparisons!

To the op, it's a great lens, enjoy! Now post up some shots :)

Roger. The f/4 is a cracker il agree :-)

Until you decide you want IS, then after a while start lusting for a wider aperture.. And then after a few more months decide that you need IS and a wider aperture.

Then you are in for a whole load of pain.

Great lens though! But the IS version I bought after owning one for a while was even better!

I have only used it indoors in the evening, so f/4 does show... But I really like it so far, I've also tried a fill flash from my 480exii with it tonight and it made a big improvement... I'm happy so far :D

Very impressed with some test shots I've done the past few days!

few work shots with the 70-200

Cracking lens, owned one for a while now and it's very versatile. It's nice and light without the IS so really good as a walkabout, coupled with a wide angle you got all you need for a day out.

The flower above is really nice, showcasing the detail and narrow DOF possible.

I got a shed load of shots with the f/4 L on my flickr if you want a look.

thanks guys, ill take a look Martyn

WOW! we're off to howletts next week, so hopefully i can get some shots like that! the sharpness you have is amazing!

I bought a second hand 70-200 f4 L and loved it. It gave me some of my best photos and was sharp throughout the whole range. I did eventually lust after a 2.8 though and eventually sold it to get a 2.8 IS which is also very sharp. I'll always have a place in my heart for the f4 though, it's a really great lens. Congrats on buying a new toy.
