any advice i am upgrading from a canon 400D to a 1D mk iv in march, really excited.:)

Get some dumbbells and start training those arms :)

is it really that heavy to use, i was going to use a tripod or a mono pod

Hope you realise your going from a puddy tat to a tiger. The 1D MK IV a completely different beast. My advice is definitely read the manual, and enjoy you new purchase when you get it

Compared to your 400D its a beast, tap a big lens on top of that and you will need a pretty strong tripod/monopod as well as arms like popeye :D

One question though why have you gone for the 1D MKIV? Did you consider other options and what do you like taking photo's of? Just interested, as most people might have gone to a 60D, 7D or full frame

yeah i did consider the 7D but it doesn't have the same auto focus accuracy and the low light shooting. i know if i didn't get it now i would regret it

where abouts in Fareham, i lived at cams alders near to the roundabout which yo would take for Lee on Solent and Gosport

Not too far from Fareham Leisure centre, Park Lane

Just be aware stocks will be in VERY short supply. Don't leave it till the last minute to buy!!

I use a MKIV and a 400mm 2.8IS on a Manfrotto 680B monopod....Yes it is heavy but its all about getting used to handling it. Shooting sport with two bodies is a juggling act, but its all about the technique.

The MkIV and a 70-200IS MKII is quite heavy and carrying it all day is quite tiring, but I tell you what, it is certainly worth it with the quality it produces.
