I am looking to upgrade the quality of my nikon 18-135 (I have a 300mm F4 prime) can anyone advise if nikon do a better quality lens in a similar range. I use it for general shots, portraits and landscapes.

Have a look at the 18-200 one.

16-85 is worth a look as well, though obviously a bit shorter. The 18-200 is decent though and arguably better value.

Depends on budget. I would say the 24-120 is a good buy and probably the best IQ wise that sort of matches your range.

18-105VR?

Much better IQ than the 18-135 and VR too :)

that was the question and i gave my opinion no mention of budget so calm down !
dont go having a tizzy fit let some of them on here :)
cheers

Phil, I have lent my D80 back up camera to my son. He would like to use my 18-135 on a semi permanent basis so I was looking for a sharper alternative that matched up to my recently acquired D7000. An £800 lens is way OTT for what I would use for, which is general family shots and landscapes.

Thanks Holty for your suggestion I will research that one too.

I'd look at the 18-70/28-105/18-105 vr

All of those are good lenses, the weekest being the later but still good!

All can be had for under £150 :)
