Well, I just purchased my upgrade to LR4 from the email from adobe for £59. Weird that the physical disk version is cheaper than the download by £1 but I guess this is because they are doing an offer on free shipping.

So I figured I would get the disc

Just FYI for those who have LR3, might be a good time to upgrade for a cheap price....

It's released now, but check the system requirements. It won't work on Win XP.

Thanks for the heads up, i was looking the other day and saw the beta was out and thought there would be a longer wait until i could get the full version.

cheers.

order cancelled :)

BTW : £100 is not much and I thought that Lighroom in general is more expensive...

the hosts for the download are in ireland so different rate of tax if i remember rightly.

just buy the boxed copy then download the 30 day trial, then enter they key from the box when it arrives.

Cheers for the direct ordering link
Upgrade ordered for delivery, will install the trial version as recommended.

I read the DPReview LR4 feature
Soooooo many good reasons for upgrading.

It's because the Adobe online store is based in the Republic of Ireland, where they have to charge 23% VAT.

Physical disk is shipped by Adobe UK and they charge UK VAT at 20%.

Is there a Student and Teacher upgrade?

I'd buy the full S & T product but I'm only allowed to buy one in every 12 mths and I bought LR3 in October

My understanding was that you couldn't upgrade, one of the reasons it is cheaper, however your best be is to check the EULA and the "Do I qualify for an upgrade stuff".

Will LR 3 support the latest new Nikon d4 and d800 with update or will I have to buy lr4

Thanks James, I hadn't seen it was available. Downloading now.

I ordered the upgrade and installed it on a student and teacher version of lightroom 3 with no problems.

You should be able to upgrade or even order the normal version of lightroom 4 as they consider a major upgrade to be a new product and so not limited by the 1 every 12 months rule. But, it's possible you'l get a numpty customer support person who will reject your purchase - this happened to me when I bought the newly released version 2 shortly after purchasing version 1. I phoned them, pointed out that it was essentially a new product, the (new) person I was dealing with agreed and authorised the purchase. So it shouldn't be a problem, but if you're unlucky like I was (once, in 4 versions of the software!) you might need to contact them directly!

I've had a good look and think I'm going to stick to LR3. For me at least, the extra features just don't warranty the upgrade.

If I have a full version of LR3 but chose "try" option of LR4 will it work ok?

yes - you can install alongside and upgrade your LR 3 catalogues to a different location. Just remember any LR4 updates you make won't be available in LR3

I think theres some seriously useful features in the new release

Cheers Hugh. I might as well just buy it then :)

Might be worth waiting a couple of days, It's sometimes cheaper on Amazon by a few pounds, plus you usually get free shipping

It's free shipping from adobe

I would have thought that RAW support would be decided by the version of camera raw that you are running rather than the version of Lightroom.

Lightroom is essentially camera RAW. It's not like Photoshop where you update camera RAW - you update Lightroom.

If you have loads of presets will they still work - bearing in mind the new sliders....?

I suspect they won't but can't find a definitive answer....

it depends on what they do and how they do it. Some will, some won't. Not much help

Doesn't work on XP :(

Oh that's a bit rubbish for me

Also I'd recommend a 64 bit so with lots of memory. I went windows 7 64 bit with 16gb memory for Lightroom 3 and photoshop cs 5 and both now fly where they were struggling under xp

My next upgrade will be something like that, but I've never had a problem on XP with LR3 or CS5, and there's nothing I've seen in the newer versions to make me want to jump just yet.

one thing I have noticed when importing the catalog from lr3 to 4, the GPS support for LR3 was via plugin , but the metadata used in LR3 is marked as "GPS shadow" or "shadow GPS" can't remember which, but anyway the data isn't imported with the catalog:'(, so all my tediously marked GPS photos are now no longer marked.:(

Also as I cant afford the silly price for a nikon GPS unit [spent it on LR4;)], I was using a tracker app on my phone to record where I was. The LR3 plugin then looked at timestamps and marked your pictures with the gps coords: Now has anyone tried to do the same with LR4? , ie record a track, export the data and correllate the data in LR4.
I only tried importing last night, no time to create new pictures and data until weekend.
