currently using a Nikon D90 and am toying with the idea of upgrading to full frame. any recommendations to which Nikon camera body I should choose? preferably for as little money as possible :D

i can recommend the d700 brilliant and excellent value for money

cheers guys.. ill take a look

Yep, I'd second the D700 idea. It's certainly the cheapest route to Nikon full frame if nothing else. I suppose though, it does depend what your motivation to go full frame is as they all offer something subtly different. The d700 is a great all rounder though. Bit of a jack of all trades, only being let down a little these days if you want the mental resolution that the new generation offer. I don't know what they go for now but I sold mine about 6 months ago with about 60k clicks and got less than £800.

FF Nikon has to be D700. Ergonomics great and specs still awesome. Yes it isn't a resolution monster, but 12 megapixels is enough for me. It's also going so cheap nowadays it would be a crime not to try FX this route.

For me the D600/D610 body and plasticky feel made it dead on arrival, shame as the downside of the D700 is its a bit heavy.

Not used the likes of the D4 etc but the build quality of the D600 is totally fine in my opinion , never used mine and thought "this is so plasticky" its a cracking camera

Fair enough, The D700 just felt better made, but it is definitely a subjective feeling

Why?

95% of anything you could want to do can be done fine w/ DX....probably more.

But for the best FF cheap...I'd go w/ the D700 as well.

I have got the D700 and really pleased with it, having upgraded recently from a D300, it is a really nice camera, i am using it with prime lenses at the moment, but need a nice versatile zoom, i would recommend it.
But if you have a bigger budget like John says the image quality of the D600 is fab having compared some images.

Why are you thinking of going full frame?
It can be an expensive step, especially if you already have DX lenses which would need to be changed for FF.
What do think making the switch will do for you and your photography?
Without knowing the answers to this it's hard to recommend what camera, as we don't know what you shoot and what your expectations are.

D700 is dated but still superb camera ( still hunting for one myself:) ).
Maybe coming from D90 you could have a look at something like D600?

The D600 will do everything you need from a FF camera. Fantastic dynamic range and high ISO shooting.
