I currently use a Minolta Dynax 500Si, with an assortment of lenses. I now wish to upgrade to a DSLR, hopefully keeping my lenses.

The only option that I can see is to go for something from the Sony Alpha range. My questions are: -

Does anyone currently use any of the Alpha range?

Will all my Minolta fit AF lenses work with the Sony DSLR's?

I was using a Minolta Dynax 7000i and although I was tempted by the Nikon/Canons I wanted to use my existing lenses. So the Sony A100 came at just the right time for me. It's good to see the range expanding and also the user base. The only lens that I have that is Sony is the kit lens all the others are Minolta AF mount lenses which work fine with my A100.

Thanx for that info - I'm going to start looking into the Alpha range in more detail at the weekend.

if it helps, I changed from minolta to the alpha100 and then changed to canon. I'm very glad I did. It took a while selling my old stuff on ebay etc and sourcing replacements but I've no regrets at all. The only thing I am still missing is a long telephoto (i had a 400mm before). While it's annoying, I found that being pushed in to a situation where I only had a kit lens for a long time and then a gradual increase in lenses made me concentrate more on composition and recognising a good shot than I was before. The end result is, I feel I made big strides forward with my shots.

All that said, I was reading a review of the new alpha the other day and that really does look pretty good! The alpha was a fair first effort (the self cleaning sensor and antishake are fantastic), but the new one is so much better. Just my thoughts, hope they help.

Thanks for that Dizzy, I'll certainly be bearing other makes and models in mind when I go looking. It's good to get both sides of the story, so to speak
