As it says in the title, Upgrade time - Iphone or Blackberry.

The other choice is the Nokia E71

What are the pos and negs from any users?

I've been with Vodafone 26 years now so to change to O2 for the Iphone would have to be considered.

The only negative I have found so far with the i-phone is the battery life, thats it and I can live with it, awesome bit of kit !

Agree, absolutely love mine:thumbs:
Battery lasts much longer without the 3G if you can live with it

A new iphone coming out as well - support for bluetooth for music, better camera, video, text message forwarding facility, etc... I love my iphone and wouldn't swap it for any blackberry I'm afraid.... and I don't find the battery life too bad, but don't spend my life listening to music or watching videos on it.

I agree great piece of kit but the battery is dreadful if you want to receive email on the go, lasts for less than half a day and if you have no way of charging it your stuck. Let me down to many times in this case so changed recently to a Blackberry bold purely for the battery life.

I pretty much use my 'phone' for work and therefore the Blackberry Bold is best for me. I played with a BB Storm and absolutely hated it. I would definitely consider the Iphone if I were going to do other things beyond just business stuff. I also find typing emails or texts on the BB excellent - the Qwerty keyboard on it is pretty good considering. I find battery life on the BB Bold acceptable but not great - mind needs re-charging every night.

iphone for me.... push email and more applications than you can shake a stick at. Battery life is an issue but turn off push email and fetch manually and you're laughing. Ipod as well. Can't knock it. With the new OS due next month it'll be even better and apple have worked on extending battery life with every software update. I sometimes need to charge mine part way through the day, but will just usb it to my laptop when i can or use a car charger and plug it in every time i get in the car. Also, if you have a mac and a .mac account or mobile me account as it's now called.... everything automatically syncs... contacts calender events etc. So i ad something to the calender on my iphone and it automatically ads it on my mac at home. Life is so much simpler with an iphone.

out of the 2 id go with the new version of the I-Phone.

we had a range of blackberrys at work on trial and they all feel flimsey as hell, like theyve come out of a cracker.

I've got a Blackberry Bold and love it - it really comes down to your usage. If email is your priority I think the Blackberry would be a good choice but the iphone wins for web browsing. I can run my Bold for two or three days between charges which I'm happy with.

I use my iPhone pretty heavily and it lasts through the day, having said that, my email is on fetch rather than push, because I don't mind waiting a few more mins for it.

The other advantage to consider is no moving parts to go loose/break etc. I could never get on with the keyboards on Blackberrys.

I'm really thinking about a iPhone or BB just now. From what I've read the iPhone is a much better option. I'm just wondering what sort of deal are you guys getting per month? and I'm pritty sure you can get hotmail on BB but what about the iPhone? I rekon this is a good thread since many people have the same problem!!

I have the e63 and its amazing it just blows my old n91 away and I have never even seen a Blackberry so I personally couldnt quote on them but I have been told the e series blows these away too due to a slug of a browser on the BB and the S60 software being mainly free and downloadable anywhere so I would go for the e71

Couldn't live without my iPhone, well probably could but it'd be depressing :D

as others have said, there is a new iphone coming out very soon, in black and white, and 4 -> (iirc) 32gb memory sizes. watch the blogosphere before making a decision!

I run both daily. An iPhone 3G for personal use and a Blackberry Curve for business.

Why two handsets? Well, aside from the obvious advantage of being able to turn the work one off(!) the iPhone, for me, isn't quite a business tool just yet. Typing out a lot of emails and working on documents on the fly is much much easier on a BB than the touch screen of the iPhone. That's not to say the iPhone is bad, it's just not as tactile for speedy responses as the full keyboard of the BB IMO.

If it was simply a personal usage choice, it would be the iPhone 11 times out of 10.

the user interface is simply the best there is at the moment, and the handset offers just about everything you could want for everyday use. There are one or two downsides (background apps, bluetooth connectivity, flash sites, etc.) but these are largely being ironed out with the new 3.0 software due next month.

Bottom line, get in to a shop and play with both. If the store won't let you play with a 'live' BB find one that will. Any shop worth it's salts should fire one up for you to have a tinker with.

Personally I am waiting for the new iPhone to be release and have been for the last few months. As already mentioned it will have improvements over the current model and hopefully an improved battery life. Rumours are it will be announced at this years WWDC which is Monday 8th June.

There is also a bit of software I saw recently that turns your iPhone into a remote flash controller (hopefully they will do one for Nikon too).

The other phone you might consider is the about to be released Palm Pre. This is labelled as a strong iPhone contender.

This is also the G1 (again rumours are there is a G2 on the horizon) which has the Android based platform, it is more chunky then the iPhone but I believe it has a slightly better battery. It too has the marketplace for buying applications.

I have a BB Bold for work and a BB Storm for personal use, wife has the Iphone 3G and i personaly prefer the Blackberry.

Blackberry for Email/SMS

Iphone for Multimedia

Best thing is go and have a play with the phones in the shop and decide for yourself, Blackberry forums will say Blackberry is better & Iphone forums will say Iphones are better...best to decide for yourself i reckon.

I have both a Blackberry (provided by my employer) and an iPhone (my personal mobile). Reason for 2 phones is to avoid being disturbed by work calls when on my own time.

The iPhone is by far my favourite. I don;t find the battery life an issue, I have an in car charger so can top up whenever I need (not very often). App store has some amazing applications for the iPhone (I too use mBox for Hotmail). Browser is good (shame there is no Flash support though).

I'd go for the iPhone every time !

I had two blackberrys and now have an iphone 3g and would never move back.

There's some rubbish talked about the battery life. I receive typically around 80 emails everyday, some with word and pdf attachments, and I've never been let down by the battery. It will last all day unless you start game playing on it. Games such as FlightControl suck the juice out of it.

The only thing it lacks, which is likely to be fixed within a few days, is cut-n-paste.

I'm not fussed for music or streaming media. I would like the email, and the gps sounds attractive.

I'm erring towards the BB.
What's the difference between the Bold and the curve 6900?

Agree, absolutely love mine:thumbs:
Battery lasts much longer without the 3G if you can live with it
And if you're on 2g - stuffed!

I think the general idea in Apples head, was that iphone users would dock the phone at the end of a day, preventing it from every really running low.

But there can be no doubt, comparatively the battery life IS poor.

I agree great piece of kit but the battery is dreadful if you want to receive email on the go, lasts for less than half a day and if you have no way of charging it your stuck. Let me down to many times in this case so changed recently to a Blackberry bold purely for the battery life.

Rubbish - we have blackberrys at work - I have mine turned off and forwarded everything to my iPhone - and I usually hate Apple stuff with a vengence.

The battery life is fine - I use mine all day long, plus during the evenings. Yup battery life isn't the same as my old nokia brick, but pretty good none the less. Just stick it on charge for 30 mins a day.

I've put a parrot bluetooth system in the car and can have phone, music etc though it no problem.

The killer thing between the two - we're photographers. You can have a portfolio on the iPhone, not on the blackberry

What's the difference between the Bold and the curve 6900?
The Bold is a 3G enabled handset, whereas the Javelin isn't. That said, the download speeds don't actually vary greatly in day to day use given the Bold's tendency to buffer the data before displaying it.

The biggest difference is the physical size of the handsets. I would strongly recommend holding one of each to see which fits your hand better.

I chose the Javelin as it was smaller and suited my preference. I know others that have made the opposite choice.

Definitely a try before you buy decision that one!

Hae you looked at HTC's offerings?

Like the Touch HD, Diamond 2, Touch Pro 2 and the Magic?

I have the HD and it will last a good 2-3 days of irregular use, and a day and a half with web surfing, photo and watching the occasional video. The screen is also bigger and (generally regarded as) better than the iPhone.

All will do push email (not too sure about the magic however) and have assisted GPS (same as the iPhone). If you are into big emails then the Pro 2 would probably be your best bet as it has a slide out keyboard. :)

Hotmail just works on the phone via POP3 (even on the free Hotmail version) no extra apps needed.
Doesn't work overly well at synching the two though should you change something through a web browser (add a folder etc.) in my experience.
