At the moment I have a Sony A200 I am looking to upgrade to a Sony A700 in the near future. I was just wondering if it is a good upgrade as I dont really want to swap over to canon or nikon as I have invested quite abit in glass for the sony.

Thanks

you won't regret it Matt. I previously upgraded from an A300 to A700, the difference is huge. I say go for it!

its just the case of finding one for the correct price. Not many seem to go on ebay.

Currently there are few on ebay...with the kit lens..
Are you looking for just the body?

I have just done the same in the last month and don't regret it at all, still getting used to the 700 but defo a big step up.

I will possibly be looking to make the same switch soon......or might wait until Sony release a new model to replace the 700

Either I dont really mind, would like the kit lens so I can put it with my a200 to sell as I sold the kit lens to that recently.

Yeh seen that one, theres only one other on there and thats from cashconvertors so not too sure on condition ect as they dont right much.

A200 to A700 is a great upgrade. Low ISO performance is not really any different (actually the 200 might be slightly sharper if anything) but the higher ISO is much improved.

However, the main thing is the handling - the 700 is the best handling camera body I've used - everything is at your fingertips, fast, intuitive, simple etc

I bought 'brand new' end of line for less than £500 so don't go overboard.

There is one for sale on Dyxum at £350 (scruffy but in perfect working order - sellers words not mine) http://www.dyxum.com/dforum/fs-a700-350-west-london_topic59799.html

I've just re-bought an A700 again, after selling mine (basically bought as a backup to my A900).

Image quality is excellent, but the A200 is deinfately better at low ISO, and the A200 has a proper ISO100 setting. Same as the D60 / D300 - the Nikon D60 is better at low ISO, the D300 is better at high ISO. No surprise as they all use the same Sony sensors. This can easily be observed in blue sky noise patterns.

The same pattern is followed with the A200 / A700 as the D60 / D300.

Ok, well they all seem to be going for around £500. Just got to keep looking I s'pose.

Thanks

I sold mine here for £450 and re-bought one here at £450. Ebay seems a bit higher. You'd probably get about £200 for the A200.

So purchased a A700 from ebay £460 posted. Just got to sell my A200 now and save for a grip for the A700. Should hopefully get the camera tomorow!!
