I've a pretty ancient iteration of Photoshop Elements.........we're talking version 7. However it does most of what I need most of the time.

The main thing I get frustrated with is the time it takes to deal with post processing if I have lots of files to deal with an I shoot nearly always using RAW plus small jpeg. The catalogue I have has been running in Organizer was created in 2007 and its getting pretty large (I've 200GB of files that its cataloging) and at the same time the version of Adobe Camera Raw that goes with PSE7 is so ancient it's pretty limited in its functionality and can't cope with more modern cameras such as my Fuji X10.

My PC is running Win10 is only a couple of years old and is plenty fast enough.

So I need to do something.

I've been thinking of going down the Lightroom route for workflow and organising and retaining the current PSE7 for any detailed image editing OR investing in the latest version of PSE.

Advice needed as I'm worried about jumping from the current PSE7 Organizer to an unknown platform (Lightroom) and whether I'll be creating a rod for my own back in terms of tagging and rating of images, or if I'll be hamstrung by an inapproprate and clumsy Organizer in the latest version of PSE.

Why don't you download the free trial of Lightroom to have a play and see if it is something you could work with? I was weary of it at first, but now love it. I pay for the 8 pound a month Photoshop and Lightroom CC subscription but rarely use Photoshop as Lightroom is really quick for most stuff and non destructive. http://www.adobe.com/uk/downloads.html

Lightroom & PSE play nicely together, and LR imports PSE catalogues & keywords just fine. It should work with a version as old as PSE7 but I'd test first. The tagging is similar but a little more powerful in Lightroom - and easier to use once you understand what it's trying to do.

You can trial Photoshop as well, but I would definitely recommend the subscription.

+1 for LRCC..I came from Elements 11, was pretty 'scared' at first and needed some you tube tutorials but now I'm really enjoying it..great value and all updates are included
