Hi I have a 30 d my first Dig but thinking of a upgrade 5d mk11 or a 7d and a mac which is better?

different cameras -one is fullframe 5dmkII and one APS-c 7D

what lenses do you have - and what type of photography do you do

Better for what?

full-frame all the way, both are good camera!

go for the 5dmkII and keep the 30d when you need the crop factor?

Nobody can comment with confidence without knowing what you are going to be shooting

I like nature and aircraft and have 100>400L 600f4L 28>135 100macro

good glass- what are you now looking for in the upgrade
to quote other posters
What limitations on the 30D are holding you back?
on a full frame you would not get the crop factor field of view - so all those lenses would be different
at the moment - take the focallength and x 1.6 for the 30D
and also for a 7D - so they will be the same
onthe 5d - itwill be x1 so the same info

your current 600 = 960 on the 7d/30d
and the
28-135 = 44>216 on the 7d/30d
on the 5d
they will be 28>135
and 600 will be 600

A lot depends on what you want to do with the finished photos. If it is your intention to "crop them and blow them up substantially" then the full frame offers the better resolution. However this is to a large degree offset by the extra reach of your lenses when using the cropped sensor. As previously stated this gives you a multiplication of 1.6 on the lens reach so a 400mm lens is still 400mm on a full frame but becomes 640mm on a croppped sensor. I have the 7D and have had some outstanding wildlife photos with my 100-400mm lens. With your lenses both bodies will give you excellent results. Like the post above I would sway on balance to the 7D for the better AF it has.

Would you care to post up a couple of your nature shots with the 600mm Nick with exif intact as I am interested in seeing what results you have had with that lens and the 30D.

Mac on the way as for the camera I`m thinking more for the 5d mk11 , I tend to do alot of manual focus but will going to jessops to have a play.

Given that you're interested in nature and aircraft photography I'd have to say the 7D.

When shooting aircraft you'll have the advantage of a narrower field of view due to crop sensor; this'll give you the effect of a longer focal length as pointed out in another reply. Also the AF in the 7D is superior to that in the 5DII so would really help shooting fast approaching planes.

When shooting nature / macro you'll benefit from a larger depth of field. Shooting macro using my 5D II is harder than when I used my 40D; I find that I need to stop the lens down a lot more to achieve a comparable depth of field.

5DII is incredible and shooting full frame is amazing, but sounds like it wouldn't suit your photographic interests.

Go for 7D - a great if you want the crop...or cheaper version 5d Mk1 - my fav camera:), and in my opinion better than the MK2 unless you want a video:), but the quality of the image is better in MK1 - it has that magic:)

Few days off only way is to try I do like the quailty of the mk2 but 7d with the crop is better I`ll have take my lens and try both .(7d at the moment)
