hi guys,

my wifes started doing weddings and she is using a A580 body and 2.8 sigma glass which is working fine for her.
her photos are all sharp and crisp and for the price its very good.

my question is would the A77 give much more to her in terms off quality at higher iso settings or would there not realy be much of a difference ???

with the A580 she can shoot upto iso 3600 before noise comes into play.
also is the A77 weatherproof ??

any help would be great, thankyou chris.

Sorry, but Being smaller pixels on the 24MP A77 and the 1/2 stop or so lost through the SLT mechanism it is slightly worse at high ISOs then the excellent A580 (same sensor as the D7000)..

Obviously the other thing for your wife to try if she wants better ISO performance is the multi-frame noise reduction (Only works in JPEG, takes 6 shots and averages the noise out very well indeed).

The only way to get better high ISO performance natively is to go FF I'm afraid.

The A77 is a great camera though, I've used it for 2 weddings now, and actually found it really good to use, it is 'weather sealed', as is the kit 16-50 f/2.8 lens.

Just for reference, using this multi-frame, here are a couple of day before shots from one wedding I did using the A77

Is she being limited by the ISO performance? I tend to work around it, since semi decent APS-C ISO performance has only been around for the last 5 years or so..

But if I was a pro tog, I'd really be looking at a 5D3 or D800

There is a FF sony due in a few months. I'd wait and see what that is like. The a580 is pretty good.

I'd also investigate noise reduction s/w and see whether you can make iso 6400 usable too.

A77 is probably going to be the same or slightly worse than the A580. Also the dynamic range is worse I think.

as mentioned high ISO is probably going to be slightly behind the A580 but the handling will be better.

Thanks guys,I think I'm going to wait for the a99 which by the sound of things is full frame.

She has cs5 and can use photos upto ISO 6400 with its help.

the main reason we wanted an upgrade was bait better iso and weather proof so if the a99 is what people are saying it is it should fit out needs.

We have just spent over 2k on sigma glass for Sony body's so cant really leave them now.

Will carry on using the a580 until the beast is let loose :-)

Does anyone have any REAL info on the A99 yet?

anyone with real info at this stage is likely to be covered by an NDA.
Rumours say that the announcement is due fairly soon though :)
