I have a Nikon d90 with a couple of primes and a 18-105 kit lens.

Just wondering what would be a suitable upgrade from the kit lens.

Should add it must be a zoom, as I already have a couple of primes.

Thanks

What's wrong with it?

Or what do you need?

Before Nikon broke my system, I had the 12-24mm f/4 and 24-120mm f/4. Nicest pair imaginable!

So, what's wrong?

Do you need the same range?

Tbh I have the 18-105 and find it's good enough for general walkabouts, but have just bought a Tamron 17-50 2.8 so can't see me using the 18-105 much now as I don't need the extra reach.

I had a 70-300vr, 50f1.8, 35 f1.8 and a Tamron 17-50 f2.8. That was lovely on the d90. Sold all those lenses and only kept the tamron. So I guess the tamron is what I'd recommend as I haven't parted with it and it's a little cracker!

Thanks for the reply guys. My thinking behind the upgrade is a better lens, sharper images. I also take a lot in low light, so the 2.8 could be useful there.

However would I miss the reach of the 18-105.

I already have the 35mm 1.8 and 50mm 1.8.

Go for the Tamron for now, then if you find your missing the reach (can't see it myself as it's only 55mm longer) maybe look at a 70-200 2.8. You can take your pick as to which brand, Tammy, Sigma and of course Nikon if you have the dosh.

Good luck with your purchase and if buying SH ask to see sample shots to make sure you get a good copy.

I'd like to replace my 18-105 with a 16-85 for general non-prime walkabouts, and use a 55-200 for longer shots.
