Upgrade from a D70 or wait?

suggestions all going the wrong way for me ...buy an out of date camera and buy primes ....yes dont forget the camera bag for all that weight and Ibrupafen for the bad back ....One good camera and one good zoom is all you need ( not tamron or sigma ) match the lens to the brand and if you shoot jpeg up the sharpness to +9

and if you really want bad advice buy a tripod
I'm sorry but that isn't really helpful in any way. Out of date is a subjective thing, primes suit my interests perfectly, weight is of little concern and a tripod is almost essential for landscape and lighting work.

If you have nothing constructive to add I would rather you didn't add anything.

Just got given a 12-24 Nikkor to try for a few days - it should at least confirm or rule out the new lens question.

Sounds like you made a decision and all you want is confirmtion of your decision....what I said is truly what I would do and what I do ...your life your money have fun but dont tell me my opinion is invalid.

If you are using a 10 year old lens you are missing all the technological advances ....do you drive a 10 year old car ??

I have a couple of Nikon lenses that I have owned for over 30 years. Still good today ! Not AF but still optically perfect.

My biggest camera is 40 years old and I'm pretty sure it'll knock what ever you own into a crooked hat.

At least for stuff that doesn't move...

Which technological advances have there been in lens over the past ten years? VR is all I can think of and that isn't all its cracked up to be.

Well what's changed is the advent of easy corrections in PP. Modern lens designs don't have to worry so much about CAs or distortion as they are easily corrected (or just done in camera with JPG) so they can worry about making other things better.

However, that's not to say the comment above (you know the one) isn't total crap.

I can recommend a D300. I haven't used any newer DSLR's so don't know how they compare, but the D300 is lovely to handle and produces some superb images. When I bought mine, it was as if I had bought new lenses too, all the CA I had with some lenses disappeared and everything seemed quicker.
Don't discount mirrorless or M4/3 either. Someone mentioned the Oly EM5, I have one and an EM1, you can get some fantastically sharp lenses at very good prices for them. The cameras perform very well at high ISO and AF is lightning quick. Your not going to get Nikon D4 performance, but the newer Olympus, Sony, Fuji and Panasonic mirrorless cameras are well worth looking at and leave quite a few mid range DSLR's struggling to keep up.
