Upgrade from a Canon 1.4TC MK2 to MK3 ?

I had already switched to mkiii extenders by the time I got the 100 400 mkii but I think so yes.
Obviously depending on the changeover cost.....

I can probably get about 140-50 for the MKII and the MKIII is 315 from Hdew so about 165 ish, hmm. I'm going to sell the 70-200 2.8II as I hardly use it so might invest.
 
Yes. I was in exactly the same situation and upgraded, and they are like chalk and cheese on that lens. I rarely used the Mkii TC, the Mkiii is rarely off the lens.
 
I used a pair of MkII extenders and eventually updated to the MkIII's for both the 70-200 f2.8 II and the 100-400 II and there is a marked difference in sharpness with both of the extenders on both of the lenses. Just my opinion of course but in my opinion it's worth the investment.
 
The Mk3 extenders have been specifically designed to work with the latest lenses, and give better all round performance with mk2 lenses, in fact if you DON'T use mk3 extenders with mk 2 lenses and the latest bodies you don't get the best use of the sensors in these new bodies....I only discovered this when reading the manual on the 1 Dx2.

Not sure of your point, Jerry, the mk3 ones enable more of the cross type sensors to be used, giving increased accuracy......

The OP's original question was whether there was an advantage in upgrading from the mk2 to the mk3 and I was trying to answer that point by demonstrating one of the advantages albeit with a specific camera.

If you look at the 1 Dx2 instruction manual page 102, it is all explained there......I hope that clears up what I was trying to say.

This is fine as long as you only use canon lenses ,once you have a different brand it gets complicated ,my main lens is a sigma 150-600 sport listed below are compatibility issues with different bodies and t.c combos with it .
Canon 1D3 / 1D4 with kenko 1.4 HD.TC works great all focus points allowed and nice sharp images
Canon 80D with kenko 1.4 HD.tc does not work at all
Canon 80D with canon 1.4 mkiii t.c does not work at all
Canon 80D with canon 1.4 mkii tc works fine centre point only sharp images possible
The kenko HD tc also works fine on the 80D with a canon 400mm f5.6 lens .

It really is a minefield if your not using purely canon gear ,this might well help someone before they buy a expensive mistake .
