Morning all! Just time I feel to upgrade my camera but cant decide if it should be the new EOS 6D MARK II

or should I be looking at buying a EOS 5D MARK III for more accurate focus points even though I know I would buying old rather than new technology or should i be thinking of jumping on the mirrorless wagon ?
I am just a hobby photographer but really enjoy landscapes. I have no clue what to look for so just need a little nudge in the right direction.

Why do you want to upgrade, what is it about the 6D that is limiting you?

Lenses or lens may be a better use of money depending on what you have already.

I have limited experience of the 6D mk1 (and none of the Mk2) ... and have only slightly more of the 5D MkIII ... so take my comments with a pinch of salt ;)

If your main interests are landscape, there is no point in getting the 5DMkIII for it focus points - more focus points are pretty much pointless (sorry about the pun). In no particular order things like dynamic range, resolution, weather sealing, lens availability and ruggedness are more important imo/e. The importance to you of these is something only you can decide.

Purely for shooting landscapes, without going for the 5dS or Sr I’m not sure you’ll get anything useful from a new camera.

The 6d is among the best of Canons sensors, if you were shooting sports, wildlife, or even for ‘general’ photography, a 5d III or IV might be an good option, but for landscapes, I can’t see any point.

Edit: your profiles clearly out of date, but maybe a 16-35L would be a nice upgrade.

I loved my 6D.

I only went mirrorless as my back can't take the weight anymore.

I'd stick with it if I were you as you've no idea why you want to upgrade.

I wouldn't go back to dslr's now as I like the smaller form factor of mirrorless and the goodies that come with the evf such as in view histogram, focus aids, level, wysiwyg, etc... but notice that although all of these things are lovely I didn't mention image quality.

So, if you fancy mirrorless and the whole smaller form and evf shooting thing then go for it, but image quality wasn't really the driving force for me.

Stick with 6d.

Go to 6dii if the money is burning a hole and you want an articulated screen same iq.

Go to 5dsR if the money is burning a hole and you want mega sharpness and resolution for printing massive.

Go to Nikon D750 if you want a better landscape camera than any of the above regarding dynamic range. Although the live view is not as good as canons in my opinion.

Keep the 6D and get something that compliments it, a second hand 7D ii if you want focusing for sports/wildlife or a Micro four thirds camera if you want a small, light weight set up for walking etc.

This. I have a 6D and a 7D, with the 6D getting the bulk of the activity at the moment, such as portraits, low-light and landscapes. However, the 7D is a perfect partner for when I need fast focusing, such as races and ducks.

I’m in no hurry to upgrade my 6D. It’s a fantastic landscape camera. As others have suggested, I also have a 7Dmkii for the faster things I may want to photograph.

I really liked my 6D too. For mainly landscapes I switched to a Sony A7R2 and am very happy with it. Using Canon lenses with an adapter can help avoid a big extra cost in glass but ultimately the adapter is annoying and you'll want to get FE lenses which, compared to Canon are expensive. The only Canon that interested me was the 5DSR but that's a lot of money and bigger heavier.

Thank you everyone all very good advice. I really just want to update as things improve so might look st the new 6D mark 2 . My favourite thing to capture is landscapes I do enjoy some wildlife shots too. I like the idea of adding a second camera for the times I go out shooting wildlife which is not too often to be honest. Thank you for taking g the time to help and I must remember to update my profile :) Have a great Xmas everyone!
