Morning all,

The time has come for an upgrade. Currently, I’m using a Nikon 5200 with the sigma 100mm art macro lens for some stuff and a Canon Eos 200d for all the other stuff. I’m heading directly to the Laowa rabbit hole after deciding that I need (note need not want!) a 100mm 2:1 macro. As both my other cameras are cropped frame would I be better upgrading to the 6D in the classifieds and moving on all the Nikon stuff? Does the Laowa play nicely with a cropped sensor or does it require a full frame?

Im going to stay with Canon as I’ve also got a 24-105 L and Sigma 150-600.

Budget is reasonable but it’s not going to get a lot of use so mirrorless and pro units need not apply! So, that’s the story, where should I go next?

Cheers, folks!

Any FX lens ought to play equally well with a DX camera.

As said, a full frame lens will play nicely on a crop body.

As for the upgrade, I would see how fresh a 5D body your budget will get you. They're a step down from a "proper" pro body but one up (or more) from entry level.

Thanks both of you for the advice! Nod, a mk3 is certainly affordable, is there a huge difference between that and the mk4, apart from pixel count of course?

Not sure, I'm a Nikon and Fuji user but pals with Canons rate their 5Ds.

If it’s macro that you’re into a 6D would be an excellent choice it will have excellent image quality

I think for macro the 6D is a good choice as you don't need stellar AF speed and they are down to about £300 s/h.
The 5D3 would be a step up in terms of AF at least, if you needed that. Both pair very nicely with the 24-105L.
The 5D4 is going to be pushing the budget up to £1300-1400, so then it's down to you as to how much more you want to spend.
What do you shoot with the 150-600? If it's motor sport or wildlife, then you'll want the better AF of the 5D3.
