Think again!

I had cause to start a dispute through paypal
after "buying through a "classified ad" on Flea bay
Paypal refused to do "anything"
I then filed a complaint against paypal
( which of course goes to paypal)
and the response is below....................

Dear Chris xxxxxxxx

Thank you for contacting PayPal. I appreciate the opportunity to assist you
with your questions regarding the case that you filed in relation to the
case ID PP-xxxxxxxxxxx.

Our policy is to investigate claims filed for items that are significantly
not as described if they were purchased on eBay and were paid for with
PayPal (using the category 'eBay item' and the respective auction number).

Since you purchased your goods independently of eBay or have not marked
your goods as eBay items while paying through PayPal, we are not able to
investigate your claim. This is because we are unable to compare pre-sales
and post-purchase descriptions of the item.

I recommend to stay in contact with the seller in order to find a
resolution that you are both happy with. If you purchased the goods on an
auction site you could also contact the customer support for that auction
site in order to find out if they have a protection policy in place.

It is my pleasure to assist you. Thank you for choosing PayPal.
Yours sincerely,
Eddie

Always try and use a credit card to fund your purchases, so you can seek redress from the card issuer if necessary.

Tell PayPauper that you'll take it up with the Financial Ombudsman. I've just read: "when PayPal relocated from the UK to Luxembourg it elected to remain covered by the ombudsman service on a voluntary basis, in order to maintain the confidence of its English-language customers throughout Europe."

When I've used them, it was just a case of ringing up, giving them the details and them sending the paperwork to the bank, who have to reply within a set time. I believe the bank or whoever gets charged several hundred for the privilege ;)

That sounds like a plan Thanks

After the above email I sent rather a snotty email back and the response
is below black and white if there was any doubt.................
And guys those that accept or ask for "paypal gift" you are covered
just as much as if it was a "normal" paypal transaction .......NOT ONE IOTA!!!!

Thank you for contacting PayPal. My name is Arian and I am glad to assist
you today.

I understand that you are inquiring with regard to our PayPal protection
policy.

Mr XXXX
all items that are purchased outside eBay are not covered for
PayPal protection. It’s stated in our user agreement

We offer PayPal as a payment method but the coverage is not guarantee if
the item that you are trying to purchase is not for an eBay item.

Since you purchased your goods independently of eBay or have not marked
your goods as eBay items while paying through PayPal, we are not able to
investigate your claim. This is because we are unable to compare pre-sales
and post-purchase descriptions of the item.

If you need further assistance do not hesitate to contact us.

Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,
Arian

If you did fund it with a credit card then just raise a dispute with them - they claw the money back from Paypal and then it's up to Paypal to sort it out.

Even if only one penny of the money comes from your credit card then the cc company are liable...which is handy :naughty:

Anything I can do to make life a little more difficult for them
Not that they give a duck I suspect

why do people still use fraudulent services like paypal, we got stung for £500 last year and dont line their pockets anymore we simply contact the seller and offer card or BT which 99% do actually prefer

I usually just phone up and swear at them

That was rhetorical BTW :D
BUT I also do the same as you
they usually hang up :(
30 seconds I think is my record
Miserable ****ing *******s :D

"they" say, as a "race" that we Brits don't complain enough
but how can we when its met with that sort of attitude

miserable ****ing *******s :D

I used NoChex for the first time last week, set up our account and it was very easy and quick and no charges as it seems costs are recouped from big businesses using it a lot and its British

Something at the back of my mind is nagging me about NoChex, I think it would be worth a Google......

I might be wrong wasn't there (isn't there) an American company
with the same or similar name that is a "bit of a rip off"?

and what was Flea-bay's preferred method before pay fail came on the scene
wasn't that something similar?

Before they bought Paypal, Ebay UK quite liked a company called BidPay, which facilitated payment through Western Union money orders. They ceased trading in December 2007 - I'd imagine the integration of Paypal into the Ebay system more or less put them out of business.

Thats the one Flash

Yep I guess they probably were instrumental in
them ceasing to trade
