Probably not your typical computer bug problem ... :gag:

'Tis the season of the Thunder Bug (or Fly) ... those 'orrible tiny black flying bugs that get all over you and wriggle and tickle and drive you bl**dy mad ... and are normally associated with stormy weather ... hence the name ...

:help:

Anyway ... I was watching one crawling over my screen last night until I got bored and tried to flick it off ... :shake:

Then I discovered it is between the glass screen and lcd panel ...

So ... when I went to bobo's thinking to myself it will crawl off the edge and have disappeared by morning ... how wrong was I ... :(

It has now passed away and is in full view and immovable in the bottom right corner of the top left quadrant of my screen ... :'(

Has anyone come across this before and how does one fix this little bug ... ger ... :suspect:

Suggestions and ideas welcomed ... and sorry for going on a bit ... been buggin' me all day this has ... :p

AND for RobertP ... this one doesn't come up Googling ...

Had it happen loads of times , if they haven't just fallen down after a few days I either blow through the vents at the side or use the hoover. It's worked so far.....

Yes I've heard about it before...and Im afraid what I read before, doesn't bode for good news for you Rog.

I've read of it before, with this happening...tiny little bugs getting inside the TFT and dying...they basically have to live with it unfortunately.

I wouldnt have said its definately NOT repairable....just I dont think many would want to attempt it.

Take a pic and let all of us have a laugh :D :naughty:

Is it one of those Dells with the shiny sheet over the screen? Always wondered if there was a downside to that :)

Not sure I'd be too keen with a new shiny laptop but I've taken a few apart in the past and the screen bezel is not that difficult to remove and once off ,if it is an extra panel over the screen, it should be obvious if it can come off or not.

You may find the service manual is online somewhere for download to find out what is possible.

I think it probably is Robert ... and as it is shiny & new (on the outside at least !?!) I'm not sure I'm in to ripping it apart ... so to speak ... :shake:

Thanks guys ... appreciate (most of) the suggestions ...

Would you believe ... Dell have sent me full detailed instructions on how to remove a bug from my screen ... or they will replace the LCD for me ...

I only sent the complaint in as a half serious one after my thread last night and in this morning's e-mails was the confirmation ... I am seriously impressed with that level and speed of service ...  :D

Let's hear it for Dell ...  :plusone:

Still not so sure I will tackle the whole screen removal thingy though ... yet ...

:p

Careful.....

If NTL hear you using that phrase they'll torch your gaff (said in east-end accent)

Yeah but ... they are actually encouraging me to strip the monitor down to clear the bug ... no mean feat for anyone let alone me ... :gag:

What's more this action will not negate my warranty ... and they have asked for my postal details as a standby ... in case I c*ck it up (or cannot/will not do it !) ... and they need to send a replacement in a hurry ... foc of course ... :D

Brilliant Customer Service is all I can say ... rock on Dell ...

I remember once phoning IBM with a screen problem on a T21 laptop. They called me back and a guy with a scottish accent talked me through removing the keyboard and loosening the mainboard to get to a connector he thought might be loose. Good job i had a set of small screwdrivers handy when he called.

Didn't fix the fault and it went back to IBM. came back fixed in about a week.

Gonna give it a shot over the weekend ... if you don't hear from me for a bit don't expel me and make it 799 again ...

:p

Thanks MrG ... really appreciate that ...

Thing is ... when it is stripped down MSN becomes oob ... in fact everything does ... sh*t ... do I really want to to this ... all for some silly little fly that's bugging the hell out of me ...

Gotta be done ... :gag:

At work I have this fly that insists on parking itself on the close X icon at the top right of my monitor. No matter how much I waft it away, it comes back and parks itself there :bat:

Maybe it's trying to tell you to stop browsing the net and do some work?

Maybe it's a company fly :D

yeh it parks itself there so I cant shut down quickly when boss comes in :exit:

Walls have ears Karamac ... and computers have flies ...

Wish people would NOT use commas ... they look just like an outbreak of thunderflies all over my screen ...

Getting rid of it in the a.m. ... couldn't bring myself to do it on the weekend ... and risk being without the lappy on a non-work day ... :p

**** , I've got one now :bang:

You cannot be serious ... :gag:

Coming out in sympathy ... ... not a Dell is it ... got good instructions for buggering it up ... sorry ... fixing the problem now ...

Well ... DELL = Problem De-bugged ... :D

Or to be more precise ... new LCD delivered this morning ... no questions asked ... fitted by yours truly ... part time lappy engineer now ... ...

As the little bug(ger) was not going to come out without a major strip down ... I had already gotten the LCD panel out following excellent instructions ... Dell then sent in the new unit once I said I could fit it ... :D

Saved up to a week without ...

To all of you who partook with advice, help and consolation I say ... :thankyou: ... as ever ...

But ... best praise this time around to DELL ...

Am I going on a bit now ... :bonk:

Anyway ... I'm sorted ... :p

So where are the before, during and after pictures?

;)
