NOT a political thread, more a rant against the wastage that they are causing. Not just the time spent channel hopping to escape the propaganda/lies/broken promises "Party Political Broadcast on behalf of the liars and cheats" but the sheer quantity of paper needlessly shoved through the door. Do they really think that a couple of sheets of A4 will alter people's choices? Do they really thing we're really that dumb that we don't know how to make a cross beside our choice? At least they haven't rung on the doorbell yet - maybe they've learnt that they get told to go forth and multiply! All the cr@p that comes through the door gets recycled here but how much does on a national scale?

Wish they would knock on my door. Don't seem to do that nowadays?, and yes, as you say loads of trees being needlessly felled

At least we aren't subjected to the kind of electioneering they do in the USA.

To be fair, most people probably don't know a lot of what parties stand for aside from a few headline policies. A floating voter may see a leaflet which lists a few things they really like = a vote!

Also, euro/locals have different manifestos compared to generals.

Oh they do here.
Three nights running.
They're not happy bunnies when they leave.

When people knock/ring, I point out the notice beside the bell that requests no cold callers etc and tell them that if they can't read, I'm not going to give them anything! I also keep a sh!t list of companies who cold call and won't have any dealings with them. If I'm in a particularly bad mood, I'll even take the name of the cold caller and speak to the supervisor if on the phone. (Yes, we are signed up to the TPS.)

One of the benefits of living where I do, no-one calls here appart from the jehovas witness folk once a year or so but they are omnipresent, they usually have children with them to disuade people from swearing at them.

We've had no leaflets delivered and I haven't seen any part political broadcasts neither. We've obviously already run out of trees around here and you're just watching the wrong tv channels. :)

They've tried the brat thing here. I tell them that their children are about to learn some funny new words - that seems to get them shifting!

I don't mind all that stuff. Better than living somewhere with no democracy.

Really. We are governed by Europe who are not elected by us, we may be a democracy by name but little say in how we do things.

Typical response of someone with zero clue. Do some reading. And not the tabloid media.

No democracy is perfect. As Churchill said "Democracy is the worst form of government, except for all those other forms that have been tried from time to time."
Try living somewhere where there really is no democracy, e.g. N Korea

i don't mind the leaflets, better than dealing with the coffin dodgers on the doorstep. I just wish they would actually keep to what they promise but then I am expecting a lot I suppose.
who ever gets into power will back track once they are in so does it really matter??

Yes, there are many things we have to do or can't do due to the EU. Anyone who believes otherwise has their head in the sand. For example, we are being told we have to give prisoners the vote. Putting aside the rights and wrongs of that issue surely the British government should decide this.

The above is completely incorrect. Withdrawing from the EU would make no difference to the issue of votes for prisoners.
