We have a cat and she is constantly being pestered by the local male cats, one which comes into our house through any open windows or doors and sprays inside so i`m looking for something to deter/scare him off, short of throwing things at him i`m struggling to solve this , i have seen the sonic guns available but 80% of the reviews say they don`t work , has anyone had any experience of a usefull deterant? A dog?

We had a problem with a cat coming into our garden and helping itself to small birds on our feeder.
Strangely enough it soon stopped coming in after we started letting our Labrador play in the front garden and it getting chased out a few times.

A bit extreme:)

:D

As far as i remember you can get a spray that to a cat smells like a dogs scent. You spray it around the doors and windows. I will try and find out what it was called for you.

Get somebody to visit with a friendly dog at the times the cat appears, once it's seen it a few times it will move on elsewhere.
You don't have to let the dog eat the cat lol.

Is your cat neutered?

Scott I don't think dog spray is a good idea if he has a cat of his own. That said, when I had a dog one of the local cats used to sneak in the dog flap and eat her food!

I agree but i was just trying to come up with ideas. Maybe have one of those cat flaps that need a tag type collar so only your cat can get in?

I used to keep a small water pistol beside the back door to keep our cat away from the bird atbles/feeders and any other cat out of the garden. Now that Hawkin'd bazaar no longer exist, I'm not sure where to get a replacement, although I'm guessing that most toy shops will have them...

same as what steep asked, has she been spayed? usually tom cats will only pester a female if they can smell/sense that she is in season, which if she is spayed wont happen.

She adopted us about 5 years ago, we`ve been to the vets with her and they think she has been done and as she hasn`t had kittens we`re thinking she has:thinking:

I was going to ask the same question regarding speying.....However if your vet "thinks" she already been done, my first recommendation would be to find a new vet!

agreed! spaying a female cat is all "internal" you wouldnt be able to tell if shes been done just by looking at her, with males its slightly different for obvious reasons

If you can get it now , ammonia works, makes all the tom cats think there is a bigger badder tom cat making the area

Get a supersoaker water pistol, save your own urine in a bucket, leave to ferment for a day or so and spray the offending cat with it.

Erm .. do this outside, not indoors by the way...

Seriously it works and has the added benefit that the owners then get a nice waft of something similar to that you have to put up with in your property.
