Unusual YouTube Activity.

I've been using YouTube now for a while, a few years. I use it to host videos that I want or need to share elsewhere. I do have several videos set to 'public' but most are restricted, being sensitive wildlife.

Up until the last few weeks, I've had the princely figure of 13 subscribers, in all that time and even some of those are family. I'm certainly no Vlogger.

Last week though, I'd noticed my subscribers had jumped, to 50, then the next day, 52. Also, my videos that are public have low numbers of views, maybe 200 at the most. This last week or so, one of my videos has seen over 7.3k views.

Whilst I'm flattered, it's also a little unsettling and my pessimistic side is starting to maybe smell a rat.

I mean, 7.3k views.

All a bit odd.

Possibly. This is the only forum I use to any extent though and any others have been a while since I posted on them, apart from some loose ends on one recently but when that thread dies, I'll be done there.

Just 7.3k views, from like (slight guess) maybe 300 tops, just a few weeks ago. It's not as if it's anything spectacular, just some garden birds jumping about on a feeder. If it were the Kingfisher, or Sparrowhawk, then maybe.

Does the tube provide stats on....

Where the visitors come from?
How long they stayed i.e. a glimpse of the video or watched the whole video?
Does it identify unique visitors and repeat visits?
Is it able to identify 'bots'?

It does provide stats, although I have never delved into it that much. May do that with a coffee in the morning.

I suppose the vid could have been mentioned by a blogger with lots of followers? Birds just hopping about sounds like a nice watch to me

As with my Flickr stream dale which stands at well over 10 million views ? I think a part of that is down to probable hot linking …in other words you will never know

All possible, I'm not really savvy with YouTube, I use it just to host stuff I need to share. It just seem to explode (relatively speaking) over the last week or so.

I thought that too, but I rarely, if ever tag on YouTube.

I suppose who knows really? As long as it's not something sinsister, I'll let it play.
