I was lucky enough, I think to acquire a Lens, an old m42 mount and was wondering if anyone can shed some light on its origins.

It is a Plixor 105mm f3.5 in wonderful condition, apart from a small dink on the rim, the reason I bought it was because it looked so much like the Pentax/Asahi Takumar,s of similar type.

Now I think I am a Google bloodhound, but I cannot find any reference to this lens at all, can you help, I would like to know.

Many thanks.

Richard

Hello Arthur,

I thought you might be the first:lol:, Just looked this morning on e-bay, but could not see a 105mm, there is a good looking 35mm as you say. what do you think and by the way I have not forgotten about the 200mm, just have not used it yet and you will be the first to see the results:thumbs:.

They'll certainly do the job... whether or not the colour definition is acceptable today remains to be seen I guess, personally I like the fact that old cameras with old lenses take old pictures.

Very true with regarding to the colour representation, I have tried the Plixor on my D70s and the results out of camera look sensational, I have now a large collection of M42,s and the colour and definition of this lens stacks up to the Super takumar,s very well, I have a f1.4 curing on my window sill at the moment:)

If you want to use the 1.4 on your Nikon you may have a problem wide open... my adapters (with optical window) tend to stop mine down a bit... makes the image a bit fluffy until you get past f/2.

Again you are spot on, my adapter also has the glass and I would very rarely use the lens at 1.4, but how good is it every where else:). This lens I am trying to cure and only because the other one is crystal clear. I only wish they were mine. my collection which I am very proud of does not reach those dizzy heights.

In the 60's an 70's long before the likes of Canon and Ninon UK, independent entrepreneurs such as Aico, Silber and Norman Green flew out to the Far East to source lenses from manufacturers formed after the second work war.

Consequently small batches of lenses appeared on the UK market and then disappeared again as manufactures ether closed or amalgamated.

I have never come across 'Plixor' however they look suspiciously like an early Vivitar Lens

Whilst not being able to test my two lenses won on ebay (typically the M42 adapter and OM lens have arrived first) I'm impressed by what's available. Having Canon, I'm lucky I don't need a glassed adapter, but I bottled out on an auction for a Zuiko 55mm f1.2 which went for £188.07. They seem a rare quality, so I'm gonna save for one providing my first experiences with old lenses work out.
