Unusual insurance query...

Yes
I am travelling to Rome over Easter with quite a lot of camera stuff (probably £7k's worth, based on 2nd hand prices). I'm going for a week, and I need insurance for the gear.

The unusual aspect is that I have bought a lens worth £3.8k which I am planning to sell on again in a couple of months. So I don't want to have to shell out on a year-long insurance policy when half of it will no longer need insuring in two or three months. Before anyone asks, the reason I bought the lens rather than hiring it is because I will be using it pretty constantly for those couple of months, so the cost would have been very high. Also, I can't cover the equipment under my home insurance, as that's all a very complex and difficult situation.

So my question is whether anyone knows of insurers who will be willing to cover the gear short-term for a trip to Europe? Or does such a thing simply not exist?!

Thanks in advance!

I have always found on pro-insurance that you can make changes throughout the year and have increases and decreases in the premium. If you pay on a monthly basis then the direct debits are updated and reduced accordingly once you take it back off again.

A £3.8k lens taken out of the "studio" will incur a decent premium loading because of the value and so you would make quite a saving removing it.

If you have the kit on home insurance normally and want to just insure it for the trip then again try pro-insurers who should be able to sort you out. Try Aaduki, or Clik, Towergate all of whom should be prepared to quote.

Thanks for all that advice! The idea of a variable premium sounds like a sensible route to go down, so I'll give pro-insurance a call tomorrow.
