Unusual display problem!

My laptop has developed a display problem, and hopefully someboby can point me in the right direction to fix it.

This is the problem. I'm looking at my desktop, click on Google( for example), look at a website. Close the website down and return to the desktop. But now on my desktop I have a faint image of the last page I looked at on the web. This in time fades.

Has anybody come across this. And how did you solve it?

can you connect it to an external monitor?
If so, if the problem happens on the monitor as well it would possibly be an issue with the graphics card. If the monitor is fine, then it would point to the screen possibly.

Image retention, goole it, its a common problem.

What laptop is it? First I'd heard of this was on the imac thread a little further down the page

Many thanks for the replies. I shall have a good Google later. The laptop is an Acer Aspire 5532, about 18 months old. Is image retention diferent to screen burn? As I get the retained image after 2 seconds of viewing.
