My friend as asked me to take some shots on his wedding day,i'm a little unsure on camera settings, iso etc in the church though,i'll be using a D300 and would a 70-200/2.8 do the job?

I hope that you are very good friends lol

If you are the main photographer then:

Do a search on here for the basic equipment thats required for a wedding lots of threads on this type of thing. Basically you will need another lens 70-200 is a good start and will work in the church (check if allowed first) but isn't going to be wide enough for group shots.

You'll need a back up of everything (just in case the worst case scenario actually happens)

ISO wise will depend on your style but expect to have to push this inside the church this time of the year.

If you are just taking extra shots then I would try and get some practice in before hand in a similar environment to the wedding and see what settings work best and the quality of the images that you are producing at differnet ISO's

Good luck

Tony from Barnsley (just over the hill mate! give us a wave!)
you will be taking shots from 200mm to 18mm from next to no light to glaring daylight, some you will need flash, some you wont.
you need people skills, time keeping skills, the ability to organise.

But you knew that ;o)

as for the church,, D300, strong contender for High ISO, 70-200 f2.8 will get you through as a general answer.

a lot depends on the Vicar though, weather you are able to shoot or not.
whether you will be banished to the back of the church (cant count the number of times that's happened to me!) or will be allowed a bit closer.
if its a big church or a small one (thinking of full length shots)

one things for sure though, NO FLASH

Also recommend actually visiting the church and finding out for yourself.

I'm not the main photographer,no way:nono:

Just to let you know before any judgements are made of doing a wedding, I wish you the best of luck. I'd love to be a second hand photographer at a wedding to get experience so make the most of it, a great learning curve.

Well you are a second hand photographer really lol

You're the 'second hand' compared to the 'first hand' of the photographer who is taking main photos...

Rob Brodeman,his sites called trupix

Nope - still no idea who he is

But I don't get why you're asking such questions on here when he should be able to answer them for you if you're assisting?

Good luck anyway

Yes there is a pro booked Barry,it has been a bit confusing this one:lol:

It all seems very clear to me.

There is a main wedding tog, but Tony's friend has also asked him to take a few shots so he is asking advice! Simples. :)

My advice on the basis you are not the main togger and their is no real expectation to perform is to just think about what kind of pics you want to take, what pics your mate wants you to take, and just enjoy yourself!

(And dont get in the way of the main togger!)
