Unscrewing a tight polarising filter?!

Short of using a filter wrench that I don't have or extreme heating it, which I don't fancy doing lol, how does it come off?!

Some days it'll be tight then suddenly loosen up ever so slightly and other days it won't budge, at all! :bonk:
 
Tried using a marigold glove?

It will give you grip without having to resort to wrenches :)
 
A rubber band works equally well.

When you've got it off, draw around the threads a few times with a pencil. The graphite in the 'lead' is a good dry lubricant.

I didn't believe it would work until I tried It!
 
Place an electric razor against the lens body for a few seconds and try unscrewing.
 
on a warm day
stand the camera, filter down, on an ice cube tray for a minute or so
then try with the marigolds

Don't forget to turn it on :)


It's the same with Jar lids etc, it's partly in the way you hold them (should be one hand on the base the other twisting the filter) and partly not holding the filter too tightly, if you hold too tightly or try too hard you can warp the filter making it tighter.

This has worked for me. Marigold on hand, palm on to the face of the filter and turn. Does work a treat :thumbs:
 
Tighten it first, then unloosen! Dunno how it works, but it does.

Don't use a wench - lasses are never any good with jars!!!

Bloody thing still doesn't come off!!!!!
 
Well, leave it on, it's the most useful filter in the box, and maybe eventually it'll get fed up and come off of its own accord!!
 
HURRAH! I found the thinnest of elastic bands and somehow it came off with ease! :shrug::shrug::lol:
 
I've pencilled around the thread of the filters so I don't directly dirty the lens!
 
Have the same problem with my Hoya Pro 1, just won't budge for love nor money then suddenly comes off in your hand.......
