Yes
my old xbox had a 250gb HDD that i'd like to utilise elsewhere, but unfortunately I managed to lose the disc with the HDD password on it and the xbox has since died.

Is there anyway to get the HDD unlocked so I can use it on a PC (without having to pay someone for the privilege?)

Mine recently died too and I was having the same thought. I watched a video on Youtube showing me how to remove it from the 360 HDD Caddy (old style). If there's a SATA connection on it surely you can just plug it into another PC and format it?

EDIT: It looks like there IS a sata connection on the drive. I can't see there being anything to stop you re-formatting the drive.

If it's a WD drive you've had it. £65 from WD to get the code.

its a Samsung PATA drive....will plug it in later and see what happens

do let me know how you get on as I'll do the same and use it for a downloads or seeding drive. I take it the cables are readily available and cheap?

What do you intend to do with the rest of your 360? I haven't decided with mine. there was a company in London that'll pay £20 for broken 360s but I'm wondering if they still will with the HDD removed etc. Its really annoying having such a large piece of hardware that is essentially worthless and its causing me HTPC headaches.

Paul,

I have a couple of XBOXes lying around which I hacked. If you want to borrow one to stick the drive into then you can but do you just want to blank the drive?

Thanks for the offer Darren, but I forgot my brother still had a chipped unit. All I wanted to do is get the drive unlocked so I could format it for PC use, but it's had it.

Thanks anyway :)
