Hi!

Just wondering if anybody knows how to unlock or hack the canon flash settings? You need a canon flash gun to be able to access some camera settings, im after 2nd curtain flash but with use with ebay triggers and flash but the camera wont allow me to access...

Cheers

What it won't let you enter the custom function settings in the camera to turn it on ?

the inbuilt flash allows all of the flash functions to be used.

when using the hotshoe flash, with my ebay trigger or flash on the camera i am unable to use some of the in camera settings such as flash compensation [which i understand as the flash and canera been different brands wont talk to each other] but it also disables the 2nd curtain function and it is this i want to use - i cant see why it should disable it - other than to make you buy a canon flash! my old olympus allowed me to used the 2nd curtain with a non olympus flash! :(

hopeing theres a way to bypass it?!

cheers

bob :)

Because canon dont implement 2nd curtain sync over the centre pin.

Long and well known problem with canon. You have to use a canon gun on the hotshoe or the internal to get scc.

You can get it over remote flash if you use Odins or PW Flex systems or hack a radio trigger (by triggering it optically via the built in or canon hotshoe mounted gun (which isn't that hard once you get used to it) and offers other benefits such as early triggering to implement high speed sync hacks).

You cant even get it via Canons ettl remote triggers like 580exII or st-e2!

That's the basic problem - it's part of the E-TTL operating system.

Also be aware that it doesn't work at all with speeds above 1/30sec, and the benefit is marginal at best until you get quite a bit longer than that.

Edit: and you can't hack it optically on a 40D because the pre-flash needs to be disabled (which you can do via FEL, but it's a pain). 60D or 7D, or hot-shoe gun with manual option.
