Hi all

I picked up an octabox today from someone who was selling it very cheaply. It has a Bowens fitting but I, being a cheapo newbie, only have some Neewer strobes which use a universal mount like the one pictured below from another thread on here for the softboxes that came with them.

The mounts have four holes for the four ribs of the softboxes to locate into. My question is, does anyone know where I can buy such a mount with the eight holes needed for an octabox? A quick google didn't turn up anything that looked suitable.

Not the end of the world as I'll be upgrading to better strobes at some point and would get one with a Bowens fit but would be nice if could find an adapter that would let me use the box now rather than at some indeterminate point in the future when SWMBO has signed off the expenditure application forms I have to submit in triplicate.

Any help, advice gratefully received. Mockery for being cheap tolerated. :-)

I think you'll have to either adapt what you have - bolt it onto a 'normal' speedring adapter or get something like this, if it's the right size.

Nice one Paul!! Exactly what I need. The accompanying photos even show the El Cheapo lamps I have, though branded differently. Any idea if anyone in the UK sells them? Failing that I''ll order from the US.

Don't know anyone with those in the UK and they won't be coming from the USA - Goodboy Studio are Hong Kong based and unfortunately don't ship free to the UK. Personally, as the octobox came with a speedring I'd be looking at trying to bolt the adapter you have on to that in some way at least initially.

There you go then - sorted. Wish I could find someone in the UK/Europe with Flashpoint II studio light modifiers as easily...

I only wish I was good at some useful stuff.
