Yes
Can anyone recommend a universal charger
for camera batteries that will work off a car l
ighter socket as well as a. wall socket at home?

I have 2 different Nikon cameras plus my
partners Canon so something that would
work for all of them would be good.

I made the mistake of buying a cheap one
from EBay. It took an entire day to charge
a battery in the vab even then it was only
at 80%.

Your best bet would be to look for a a mains powered universal adapter, and then run it off a good quality mains inverter for the car. This should be able to charge at an acceptable rate and fulfill both requirements.

Thanks never thought of that! I will have
a look into it

I've been using a Hahnel UniPal for a couple of years. Does pretty much all my camera batteries as well as AA(A)s and a USB output for phones etc.. 110 or 240 V AC (with UK and European plug prongs in the box) as well as 12V DC (again, lead in the box.) Mine came with a 2nd hand compact that was missing its original charger and was actually priced at more than the camera's cost! About £25 IIRC now (Amazon.)

:plus1: I also have a Hahnel Unipal and it will ccharge almost any Camera battery, keep it in the car all the time.

The only batteries my UniPal doesn't like are those for the D750 which has its contacts up slots in the casing of the batteries. It sometimes makes good enough contact but occasionally (often enough to be a PITA!) stops charging just as I turn my back on it. Luckily, the only time this was a real problem, another photographer in the group had the proper Nikon charger for the batteries and was kind enough to charge mine after he'd done his. (Thanks again, @RichieTee !)
