No
I received an email from them this morning.
Thanking me for switching to their energy tariffs,
and to view my on line invoice.

They look / seem like a legitimate company, a very professional email with headers and side bars.
Even the contact details supplied check out via the web.

EXCEPT I've never heard of them and
AVAST killed the attachment as infected.

Either its a very clever scam, or a genuine company that's been hacked.

Funny, I had an email this morning from Airtel Braodband thanking me for switching to them and even projected connection dates!
They too seem legit online, and the email looks genuine.
I think the scammers are just getting a little better at it.

Unless it's an email I am subscribed to or expecting and it slips through the spam filter, I just bin it. Certainly never bother reading them.

I would've spotted that as a scam straight away. They cant spell... :D

I posted it on facebook earlier today too, I got one, and its all very similar to the one that eventually hit the papers last week about theatre tickets. They look very genuine and are cleverly done, don't be fooled.
And they can even write in plain(and correct) English too :D
They are definitely getting better ;)

"unicom" is an ISP based in China, listed by anti-spam sites as "the third worst ISP for spam"
Also, ain't Avast great? Had it for three years, free version, and not had a single virus. (well PC hasn't, I'm riddled with 'em)

I didn't check that far, but it certainly looked very professional with "proppa Inglish"

And yep a big  for AVAST :)

Is unicom similar to unicorn?

Seems like they may both be as imaginary as one another, but I think I like unicorns more.

...not to derail the thread, but found out today that the national animal of Scotland is... THE UNICORN.

probably a spoofed sender address to be honest.

but just deploy the "if I aint expecting it, its junk" rule.

As do I however I got bitten last night by an email I'd dismissed months back as spam...saying twitter had noticed an unusual sign in, click here to verify activity...thinking yeah right...well went to use twitter last night to find I couldn't tweet...investigated a little further found I now followed several hundred accounts..when it was in the past about 65 accounts FFS Managed to retake my account but I've a shed load of cleaning up to do :(

A bit naughty of them. A general rule of thumb is any email with a supposed direct link to verify anything is phoney.

Exactly hence why it when straight to the trash can :( thankfully regaining control over my own account was relatively painless

I had a phone call today thanking my business for sponsoring them £189 for some secondary school thing back in April. I said I had no idea what they were on about and they said they'd refer it to another section, can't remember the name of it but people who sort out cock ups. The number came up as unknown.
