Was just wondering if anyone can recommend any good books or links to sites for me to read up on exposure.

It's the thing I struggle with most in my photography and it's getting right on my t*ts. :bang::bang::bang:

I'm probably going to have my first visit to my local photography club on Monday and I'd like to get as much info as possible before I go. I know people at the club can help but I'd still like to have something I can carry around in my bag with me for reference.

Thanks

Lee

The answer is in your title, 'Understanding Exposure' by Bryan Peterson. Excellent book should explain what you want to know. :thumbs:

answered your own question is a round about way...I've found this book useful - it's one you can come back to:
linky

It's a book I continually come back to and re-read sections. There are one or two bits which confused me but a couple of postings on here sorted it out for me.

Another recommendation for Understanding Exposure. I bought my DSLR in March and was using it on auto - after a couple of days, I bought this book and have been shooting in manual since, it really helped me understand how it all works!

'Understanding Exposure' is a great book to get all the basics licked. Well worth a read :)

+1 i did exactly the same thing :thumbs:

If you can get to a Library see what they have. It does not have to be digital, even old books will teach you about shutter speed, aperture, ISO, dof, motion blur etc.

And check out the children's section, I am not being condescending, patronising or taking the proverbial. Childrens' books are normally clearly written with lots of pictures, no technical terms and are ideal for beginners (to lots of subjects).

I only clicked on this thread incase it was someone selling a copy cheap lol

This thread reminded me I wanted this - so finally bought a cheap copy on Amazon today...

Just got my copy of Understanding Exposure today :banana:

also decided to buy understanding shutter speed too, should be knocking out cracking images in no time :nuts: :cuckoo: :bonk:

Ok… just been thumbing through the first few pages of this book and already I've got the camera set to manual and I actually understand what I'm doing, I never thought I'd use manual. I can already say, that after just a few short pages of reading the book, it's fast becoming my bible. Thanks guys for the recommendation :thumbs:

Just arrived! already read a few chapters and need to get out today and see if I can start doing some of the suggested exercises!!

there are easier methods of course

:lol::lol:

there are little paper things you put in the sun which darken.
you leave them out for 15 seconds
then compare them with a chart
you get a light value
transfer this to the lens settings on the camera

sooooooo easy:bonk::bonk:

Another vote for UE - excellent book. I borrowed a copy from my library.
