Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson - Any good?

Hi Guys...

I've got a book and have had for about 6 months... but I've never got round to reading it thoroughly. I have the "Understanding Exposure" by Bryan Peterson...

I think I also have the Canon EOS 20D Magic Lantern Guide (but will have to confirm that one).

Do you think these books are any good?

I havent read either of those books but I know the Brian Peterson: 'Understanding Exposure' gets recommended all the time.

As for the Magic Lantern guide ... I wouldnt have a clue... I was about to buy one at Focus but a certain Admin member made me put it back :suspect:

So there you go, about as useful as a chocolate teapot!;)
 
i dont htink i have ever read any body say "dotn buy understanding exposures"

i have the revised edition myself

Bolerus - I think InaGlo was referring to the Magic Lantern Guide (not the understanding exposure one).

Bryan Peterson book very good but it's according to far you have come with the tech side of photography as it only really breaks down the basic's.
 
I have the Bryan Peterson book and have learned some great tips from it - makes it so much easier to understand how your shots don't always come out the way you expected ;) Definitely recommended here.

thats sounds good mini, i have just ordered this book and it should be here by the weekend.
 
Following the thread on this site about 3-4 weeks ago about listing our favourite books, I noticed Understanding Exposure kept coming up time and time again, so I bought the revised issue.

I am still only a quarter of the way through it. It is very good. It is the sort of book I should have had 20 years ago rather than all those boring technically stuffed books I lost the will to live on page 2!

Brian Peterson breaks things down into bite size chunks and repeats things until the penny drops. One good example is when he says read this paragraph and then put the book down and pick up your camera and set it to manual... m-a-n-u-a-l what's that I thought :lol: Now do x y and z and this is what will happen. Now jot down on paper what settings you used for each shot and repeat and practice until you understand. Hey Man, that was great. I now nearly always shoot in Manual. I finally feel in control of my camera. You seasoned pros - don't you laugh at me.
 
I have the revised version and it's an excellent book, well worth reading more than once.
