Yes
Well after having what can only be described as a really rubbish Christmas i am thinking about flying out to Thailand on 29th Dec. I do have a mate out there at University studying photography but am in still two minds whether or not to go out there. It does involve a long flight with a short stop off in Dubai for 2 hours. Im planning to meet my mate in Bangkok then fly to Phuket.
But im still in two minds whether or not to go. Would you?
I thing its the long flights on my own that are putting me off....but not sure

Just do it...you will only regret it later if not!

Besides...haven't you seen the Beach? ;)

Its well worth enduring the long flights for, Thailand is a stunning place

Go.... whats a long flight? Books, ipod, all sorts of things to do........sleeeeeep!!
We are just going to Heathrow to pick up a 20 year old lad from Australia who is coming to stay for 3 weeks, he has never been out of his country.

Think of that flight as PART of the holiday... not just the way TO it!

As a kid I never used to only be interested when we arrived our holiday destination. I was interested all the way to Cornwall and it was part of my holidays.

Get the mindset...........and have a wonderful time!!

Go for it, its an amazing place.

Go for it, don't worry about the flight, take a ipod and magazines, there probably be movies on the flight, it'll go quicker then you think, I was worried about my flight to Australia cos it was my first flight on my own but it went ok and I was chuffed when I landed in Australia (it was a great achievement), was meeting my friend and her family at the airport which helped. It'll be a great experience for you, Thailand looks like a nice place for photography which is a bonus :)!!!!

Flew to NZ (30hr flight) and back 4 times last year - apart from a numb bum I caught up on all my sleep and films and plenty of me time and saw some amazing things on the journey - the flight is all part of the adventure.

I wouldn't hesitate- I'd be off like a shot

If I was in a position where I could consider just getting a flight and going - I'd be gone.
Do it man, have an adventure :-)

Thanks for all the advice........Just booked it now

Nice one - make sure you post loads of pictures on the forum and keep us all updated with your travels. I am jealous as hell as I love this type of travelling!!

Happy landings.

Bob

Defo go! I go every year,it is the most beautiful place in the world. It is worth the flight.Take sleepin pill on plane:D

Everything so cheap there. When u land in Bangkok,go get a massage, its only £7 for 2 hours! Beers are £1. Hit the bars. When u land in Puket (my fav place in thailand), when u see the beaches, the watersports n the bars, u won't want to come back.

Have fun:)

Cameras arecheaper in Thailand too.Buy one in Bangkok.

Do it! I'm going to be doing the same in the new year, Thailand by myself, but i'm sure even if you know just one person, you'll meet loads whilst out there, and I bet the photography to be had is amazing!

good on you, the flight will be a breeze. there are a ton of films to watch, ipod and a book will keep you from going stir crazy!

Enjoy....

Im' quite buzzing about going now.....New Years eve in Thailand

I spent Christmas and New Years in 2005 in Pattaya (Further North than where you're headed though) and it was a blast...and a darn sight warmer than here! Thailand's a whole other world, I'd never seen anything like it!

I am scared sh**less when it comes to boarding anything that leaves the ground (coaches included....yes they do on hills) but Thailand ....get yoursen gon man if you dont you will regret it

I.ve been there 3 times on my own, you will love it, just remember when you get out of Bangkok airport don,t take any notice of the scammers trying to get you into limousine type taxi,s these will normally cost you about 1500 + THB to the city or thereabouts, just go straight outside and get one of the metered taxi,s blue green or yellow normally, they shouldn't,t be more than 300/400 THB, if your mate is meeting you at the airport all the better, he will know the score if he live,s there, you won't fail to have the time of your life in Thailand, but make sure to visit all the great place's for photography, ie The grand palace,The floating market, The bridge on the river kwai, Phi Phi island, James bond island, just a few of the great place's there, oh and one last thing be careful of the katoeys :D take a look at some of my photos in this thread HERE

Go for it, your a long time dead, I should know, I was an undertaker.

Just do it...you will only regret it later if not!

Besides...haven't you seen the Beach? ;)

:agree: I'd be on the next plane myself if I could.

Have a good trip mate.

I went to Thailand in 2001 as part of a business trip and all I can say is that it was one of the best things I've ever done and did most of the trip alone. Massive culture shock - beautiful, sensory overload - Thailand has it all and I wouldn't hesitate going it alone there again - in fact I certainly will! Go!

I used to get paid to go to Thailand, it was hell ....

;)

I couple of mates of mine went over to Pattaya a little while ago and loved it. I went over to Phuket with the parents when I was younger and, what I remember of it (I was really quite young!!) it was really good!

I've done a few long haul flights on my own for work and it's great! you get hours by yourself to do what you want without interruptions! It's about the only time I sit down and read anything fictional! That's what makes the start of a holiday for me!! lol!!
