OK, I'mm off to the Lake District in July so i'm after an ultra wide angle lens and have been looking at:

Canon 10-20mm (Most expensive and a bit too much for me unless i can get used)

Sigma 10-20mm f4 (not confident about getting a good copy!)

Tokina 11-16 f2.8 (Great to have f2.8 as could use as a bit of a walk about lens)

I'm edging towards the Tokina but not many people own this one so not sure if it's a good one to get. I love the examples from the Canon and Sigma but if i go for one of these it will be a used one from this forum so i know i'll get a good one!

Any advice/recommendations

Canon does not do a 10-20mm...

Andy,

The canon is 10-22mm ;)

I only have experience with the Siggy 10-20mm and can say I am totally happy with it, I find my copy very sharp and the HSM is both quiet and fast. Some people do say there is the usual Sigma quality control problems and some copies are softer than others. Obviously with the Canon you shouldnt have this problem to worry about.

It is a 10-22.

It is a fantastic lens - I was gutted that I had to sell mine when I moved to the full frame 5D.

That lens would get my vote - normally a couple knocking around on here

Oh I would add the Tokina has a very short range and if you are usign the lens for landscapes you should have very little need for the F2.8, unless you are looking for a spacific DOF effect.

Yeah i have just missed a few :( I didn't have the dosh at the time but I have now.

I just don't think i could go for a new Siggy but happy for a good used one and again have missed a few on here.

I was looking at that because my dad said they were good, the few images on the net look pretty impressive and seeing as it is f2.8 i thought it would be fun in town or at a show as a walk about.

Canon! Canon! Canon! It's awesome and the extra reach of the 22mm end is brilliant on walkabout.

The Canon 10-22 is a superb lens. The Sigma 10-20 is also very good at its job. I've tested both but found the Canon just inched ahead with colours and sharpness at the edges... is it worth the extra few bucks? Some would argue no, and if you intend to go FF any time soon, then you'll need to consider if you'll be keeping cropped sensor gear as back up etc...

That's the question that should always be asked

£594 vs £364

All I know is that I printed this out at 30 x 20 inches & nobody has complained about the quality ...... yet ;)

I love my Sigma I have used it loads on walks in various locations, I will see if I can load some examples for you later...

I've literally just taken delivery of a Siggy 10-20 not had much light but had a quick play, hopefully some results up later from a first attempt.

I got a Sigma 10-20 sh from the for sale forum here. Havent used it extensively but what I have done with it has been sharp and with good colour, I sure cant fault it and wouldnt part with it.

I was looking at the exact same three lenses a few months ago, after much research, I went for the Canon 10-22. I now own the Canon and love it to bits.
On researching from various sources, I came the conclusion that there were some bad copies of the Sigma out there, but if you get a good one it is a close match to the Canon. The Tokina generaly came out as good as the Canon, but a combination of the shorter range and at the time it was harder to obtain, I decided on the Canon. In addition Kerso was doing a good deal at the time.

GF1 and a 7-14
:runaway: :D

Well i have read more reviews and plumbed for the Siggy! Look out for some W - I - D - E shots from me soon!

That is a SUPERB image!!!!

Tokina!!! And don't forget that they also make a perfect 12-24mm f/4 and that covers a broader range. Tokinas are the only ones that can be used on 1D / 1Ds and 5D series (giving you the same angle of view on each one at the widest working settings).
