Ultra Wide Angle (for Canon crop)

Well I've just received my Canon 10-22 within the last thirty minutes and my first impressions are that I am MIGHTILY impressed!

I don't know why people mention the build of the 10-22, its more than adequate. Ok it's not made of solid cast iron* as per L lens overkill but it doesn't need to be!

It's better built than most of Canons lens line up if you actually look past L lenses. It's very solidly built, beautifully put together with lovely, fast, silent smooth focusing with stunning optics. What's to complain about?

*I know they arnt built of cast iron but sometimes they feel like they are!

I love mine an totally agree with above a brilliant lens

Hmmm

Although i agree it IS sturdily built and an excellent lens it IS breakable. That fell roughly 30cm from the top of an open rucksack onto the tiled floor the bag was resting on.
Just been quoted £222 for repair.

Well of course it's breakable, it's a precision instrument!

I expect 99.9% of lenses will be damaged falling into a tiled floor.

They're not designed to knock down walls :)

£222 is quite a Bounty though..

I had the Sigma 10-20 and upgraded to the Canon 10-22 and for the lenses I had/now have they are night and day.

The Canon is a fantastic lens for a crop body and married to the 17-55 2.8 they make a formidable pair

This is what I have done and it works brilliantly.

Thank u for all ur comments I am leaning towards the Canon.

The missus has the Sigma 10-20 for her 1000D but I preferred the Canon 10-22 when I was only shooting on a crop body... The difference in price is considerable though.

A friend has the Sigma 8-16mm and loves it to bits but I haven't used one so can't comment beyond that! :)

Cheers,
Si
