the story - needed a promo pic for an article for a magazine feature that i have to have in for tomorrow, last min.com, real gyspy and had to wear a hat cause my hair needs done lol, set the lights up how i wanted, trained my 8 year old chloe to press the shutter button and here we go... my first wee promo pic :) .... and of course a little bit of photoshopping :) (didnt realise i had so many wrinkles already!!!) quick edit

how did we do?? :) i knew what i wanted for my lighting and im quite happy with the look but as im still at experimenting stages i may have missed something please feel free to critique for me...

From my own point of view, I really like it. Nice separation of your hat from the background with the rim light, nice catchlights in your eyes with well dilated pupils. Good bokeh. Good use of shadow to build shape and contour and nice composition too.

It does look more along the line of a portrait than a promo though, but that's only my view of a promo, so don't take that as criticism. We all have our own views on how we should promote ourselves, and I doubt we would all do it in a similar fashion to each other :D

Thanks micheal for your feedback :) really appeciate it , i wasnt sure what a promo pic was i thought it was just a self portrait lol seen other photographers doing the selfportrait ones holding their camera, low key lighting and serious look on there face lol soooo not me so i thought this one was just that wee bit different and totally shows my personality :) im experimenting with fashion lighting at min so i was quite happy with the results here for a first attempt,

It's a cracker, and if it's what you were after by way of a promo image, then I would say you nailed it ;)

erm...... I suppose my avatar fits in that category

thanks again michael, yeap its really growing on me :) i half knew the look i wanted to create , and yeap this it very close to it, well minus the hat thou but that was the cause of an unexpected photoshot on a really bad hair day lol

can i ask is there nething you would have done different or is there is nething i may have missed?

It's a stonking portrait, I wouldn't change a thing. If you're using it as a promo, and especially if you do portraits, I cannot fault it.
