UK Population

Doesn't automatically preclude him from getting a certificate though.

No it doesn't, that would require the sentence of a term of imprisonment of at least 3 months (whether suspended or not).
But, in reality, police forces are tending to be much less likely to 'forgive' past offences, on the basis that gun ownership and irresponsible behaviour have been shown to be a bad mix.

There are exceptions of course, the police allowed Derrick Bird, the Cumbrian mass murderer, to have guns despite his historical convictions for drink driving and theft, and look where that ended up.

I think once the conviction is spent then it's ok. I'm not applying for a certificate...I don't have the time to go grouse and p(h)easant shooting.
As far as certificates are concerned, convictions are never spent

Weak, feeble and probably occupied.
Occupied by who?
Don't think that's very likely.
There's plenty of non nuclear countries in Europe/the world that are not occupied.

Sentenced to a term of imprisonment of 3 months up to 3 years will prohibit a person for 5 years. This also includes suspended sentences.

Sentenced to 3 years or more will prohibit an individual for life.

Correct. But this prohibition goes further than the non-issue or immediate revocation of certificates, it also prohibits a person from all contact with any kind of gun, so although normally a non-certificate holder can use a S.1 or S2 firearm in limited circumstances under the direct supervision of a person who has the appropiate certificate, prohibited persons don't have that

So why are the law makers still talking about gun certificates? hasn't ST4 has already said he doesn't want a gun!

How else will he be able to shoot immigrants, asylum seekers and criminals (obviously excluding himself...) in the face?

Still don't get why finding racism repugnant is referred to as being offended on someone else's behalf. Racism disgusts me so I've every right to be offended by ut regardless of my own ethnicity.

he said he doesnt want a shot gun (odd as it would effectively deal with the pigeon menace) - he thinks every home in the uk should have a handgun though

He doesn't actually think that, though, does he. He's just a blowhard.

I used to think that and or a troll, but actually just like shooting people in the face and torpedoing boats full of imigrants, i think he's actually serious ... :runaway:

To be fair, I wouldn't have thought it possible to discuss population without migrant numbers being a part of it.
Quite. The 'native' population of the UK (and indeed Western Europe as a whole) has been in decline since, IIRC, the 1950s.

So hurrah for immigrants, who'll be paying my state pension, as well as funding the NHS when I'll probably need it most.

I don't think he's a troll. I just think he's one of these windbags who is fond of hardline posturing knowing that his ludicrous ideas will never even be considered as serious by anyone whose brain isn't made of custard and therefore he'll never have to seriously consider and defend the practicalities or consequences. He can go wild with spurious defences of his position because they're never going to be important outside of flippant debate on an internet forum. We all know silly little men like that.

Every home in the country to have a handgun, indeed.

how much have medical advances contributed, better working conditions (in this H&S gone mad world) and general promiscuity leading to more births out of marriage?
Very little. Western populations have, without immigration, been in decline for over a generation.

As for H&S, if you think the lack of deaths in workplace fires since the 1960s is a bad thing, feel free to self immolate in the comfort of your own home.

To be fair to Steve though, windbags do come in many forms.

As do racists and xenophobes.

So perhaps it would be best if everybody parked the ad hominems, yes?

Perfect!

Thank you for backing up my point so succinctly! (y)

some people are starting to get rather personal again! Please attack the post if you must. But not the poster. It doesn't help you win the argument, far from it.
Thanks
