Reproduced from a local newsletter, regarding the expiry date of your photocard driving licence (this is different to the expiry date on your paper licence)

Driving Licence Warning
Have you checked the expiry date on your photo-card
Driving Licence?
Look at the very small print on the front of your licence card
item 4b shows a date –
what it does not tell you is that this is the expiry date
of your licence.
Your photo card driving licence is only valid for 10 years.
These licences were first issued in 1998.
To date approx 16,000 have expired
only 11,500 have been renewed.
Are you one of the 4,500 driving without
a valid licence?
It could cost you up to a £1000 fine.
Another 300,000 licences will expire in the next year
Please check the date on your licence.
More bad news – it will cost you £17.50 and a new photograph
to renew your licence.
Form D1 is available from the Post Office.
